  • Running issue need some help

I recently had a gear box issue which took the car off the road for a little while...... seeing it was off the road i put in larger injectors, larger MAF and changed the software. Since getting the car back on the road Ive had a few issues with how its been running, with alot being due to vac/boost leaks.
I have sorted all the vac/boost leaks but the car still plays up a little , so im at the point where i need some other opinions on what it could be.

The issue i am having is that the car is missing @ cruise .....under load its fine no problems and idle is fine, but when you are cruising along it will miss every now n then and it seems that the throttle when lightly touched provokes the same response.
So throw some suggestions at me what i should be looking for as im at the end of my knowledge.
I will add that i only have a V-checker pro and no access to vag-com.

Ive done the throttle body rest a few times with no change.
I would have thought if the ignition module was dodgy it would do it all the time not just @ cruise ?

What are the plugs like Steve?

Is it producing more power than before the changes?

I reckon you need to monitor the fuelling as well Steve.

Do you want to borrow my Innovate logger? Goes in the spare bung in the downpipe.

not necessarily so, so often ignition and fuel problems are misdiagnosed for eachother. ignition can do wierd unexplainable stuff.

Hey thanks for the offer Gavin but i should be able to borrow one locally (used to have a Lm1 a few years back n sold it )

On another note my timing belt tensioner failed the other day and im just wondering if this might make the car run odd due to the belt not being as tight as it should be ?

It might do especially if it has jumped a tooth!!

I'd be right on that Steve.

I'm fairly sure that it hasn't jumped as the car was still idling and driving fine .
I had just come back from a local VW cruise and it was only when i slowed that i noticed a rattle , tracked it down to the tensioner as once i removed a few things you could see the pully the tensioner pushes vibrating aggressively at low rpm but smoothing out with a few revs. Disassembled that end of the motor and found the tensioner was leaking and the pin could be pushed back with mild finger pressure . Just going to replace all the timming gear n see how i go .......

Well car has started to give me a fault code . . . . . Still drives the same, idle and power fine with a random miss @ cruise but now with 16486 .P0102 Mass Air Flow circuit - G70 :Low input
So now what im thinking is that the Maf was the cause and it is getting worse to a point where the ecu is noticing it ?

Any recomendations on what maf to get ? as i herd talk of the US market having a differnt plug and a Hitachi brand item that is less likly to fail..... I am using a 3" housing and audi TT airbox lid if that matters ?

I'm interested as to how the new software was designed to work with your new MAF / Injectors. Was the code an existing option with designated MAF / Injectors? If you are getting detonation, I'd be thinking about pulling a little timing to prevent damage to the engine.

I've been playing with advancing the timing on my car as its running smooth but not hard, its pretty easy to pull a little timing using CustomSettings, Lemmiwinks, etc.

I don't think you can just go using different MAF's as you see fit, each MAF will surely work in a slightly different way and thus screw with the A/F's.

Gav, how does all this work (assuming you're going to read this and care to comment)
