ok guys, good news, i got my car scanned today at rex gorell VW in geelong, was told this would cost me 50 bucks but it ended up being for free! pretty stoked about that!

anyway, ima need to replace the O2 sensor, i think i might get the coolant temp sensor replaced as well as the temp gauge still fluctuates a bit, or would this just be because of the O2 sensor?

anyway the main question is how much am i lookin at for an O2 sensor?

sersously, they would charge you to scan it?
thats absolute crap. it takes two seconds to plug in and get to the right screen. you should not need to pay for that kind of thing, that should be a courtesy. hell they should make you a coffee while you wait for them to scan it!

My understanding of a stuck-open thermostat is that it stops the engine from warming up so quickly (it's generally closed to start with to reduce cooling and let the engine get up to temperature quickly). Once the car's running and up to temperature, I'm not sure that too much water flow through the cooling system is possible!
          Nothing to see here...

what colours the coolant temp sensor?? most probably its the black one which is known to fail causing the symptoms your seeing.. get the superceeded model ( green) and see how that goes.. its around $70 for the sensor and seal.
