  • confused!! need help

Hi , i am currently looking to purchase a Golf looking at 2003 to 2005 models, there seems to be a few models to choose from all with low kms and resonable prices,is there any pro's or cons with different models ,currently looking at 03 gti,04 1.6ltr,05 2.0ltr sports, also a couple of TDI any help or advise will be much appreciated.thanks Aaron

    It depends what you're after.

If you're after something sporty that you can modify for more go, a GTI would be the choice.

If you're after a "get me from point A to point B" appliance, the 1.6L would probably serve you fine.

The 2.0L is somewhere in between.

If you can provide a list of your requirements for a vehicle, and what you're considering as alternatives, that'd go a long way to helping us help you!
    Nothing to see here...

Thanks Manaz, it is mainly for my wife to drive as i have a t4 transporter tdi,
however it will be our family car ,but we want something that gets along well, handles well, comfortable, manual, without huge maintainance bills,so far we are leaning towards 2.0ltr sports for value for money.unless i am told otherwise.thanks Aaron

          Yup, the 2L sports.

Its not very sporty, but reliable and solid.

I`d avoid the 1.6L, engine and gearbox is a bit weak.

I'm pretty happy with my Sport and I'd imagine it would suit your needs quite well mate..

I've never driven a GTI or even been in one, but I can appreciate that there would be other cars much faster than my mk4. Saying that, It's still a really nice car which has ok power and good fuel consumption (I did 700kms on one tank of everyday driving once).

GTI's sell similar to the 2.0 sport from what I've seen. I drive a 2.slow and don't be decieved by the "sport" Though it's a great solid car in my opinion i'd opt for the GTI if I had a chance.

A bit more go is always nice, and if you can afford it I would get the GTI too. They're ever so slightly more stylish (aesthetics) if i remember correctly and as some have said they're not really that much more expensive!

Nice work there mate. She looks nice and tidy.
The colour is Jazz Blue by the way if remember correctly. Only 50k as well, that's a pretty neat find there.
You've done very well for yourself.
