  • MKIV replacement key

i have two keys for my bora, 1 doesnt seem to work to well, no range and what not, the other key works quiet well and is better condition, except the chrome ending has pulled free of the black plastic.
iv glued it in but it didnt stay and i ended up losing the chrome piece . What i want to know is there anywhere i could jsut buy a shell or a blank that i could swap all the parts into? is it just as simple? ebay my best bet?

Had a look in a few forums but most were full replacements. Or did i miss some?

    Thanks in advance

i got mine from this ebay seller and it works well. it just the part number is wrong so keep the broken one handy just in case you need to replace your key.

At the moment no one can as far as i know, becouse i'm searching for some one who can cut it for me and i ask some of the lock smith or mister minit shop, and they said right "now they cant do it" but they said may be late this year some mister minit key shop will able to do the cut and re-program the key. Cost? they dont have any idea. buy if any one know where we can get them cut and re-program let me know. But if your after for uncut key and not worry about the part number, this mob can help you, look for the vw one thou.

When they say they can't cut the key, check that that are not getting confused with the coding... when I got switchblades for the Mk3 I was transferring the chip from one key to the new blank I had issues trying to get the key cut since everyone was scared they would break it, or refused since they couldn't code it too.
After about 4 places I found one nice bloke who was happy to cut it for me, did a really nice job too

In other news, I actually have a genuine fob here from what I assume is a Mk4. I was using it with my Mk3 until I got my RClick ones.

It was bought from the states, the buttons all seem to work since the light flashes when you press any of them... only problem is it's slightly modified so I could put the Mk3 imobiliser chip in there:

At the very least the back cover is un touched so can be swapped on. If you need new electronics as well... bargain! Say $30 inc postage

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

mine is diffirent compare to our. mine is more like a laser cut. totaly diffirent to yours, but it's still nice for that guy to do it for you.

Any one in canberra do the laser key cut for vw keys and re-programing?

Isn't the Mk4 key similar to the Commodore keys? A channel up the middle of the blade?

Most "proper" locksmiths should be able to cut the key. I've had a couple done.
Forget Mr Minit etc, it needs to be a proper locksmith.
