    I had the same problem a few months back. A new set of plugs fixed it.

      When a coilpack in my Mki5 failed, it sounded just like a WRX!!
      One cylinder down and they sound like that.

          its gotta be a coilpack, or MAF or new spark plugs.

            This isn't always true. I did the same on mine but it was intermittent...
