  • didn't know the bora's had the dual mass flywheel, thought it was just for the motor on the 1.8t because of vibrations it was trying to dampen...

did you buy those bushes straight from 42dd? how much was postage? thinking of doing the same... (edit: i emailed them, only 6 extra for shipping, decent!)
i hate the feel of my gearbox, so maybe they'll help a little...

FWD Mk4 chassis have the same suspension setup I believe for Golf and Bora. Only the R32 and V6 4Motion differed (and they're practically identical in terms of hard points) because they use the AWD drivetrain.
        Nothing to see here...

          • Added my new rubber mounts for my rear springs and raised the rear an inch to suit the front better. after a quick drive it felt like a little less rear body roll and car felt a bit more 'together' so that was good.

Found lots of nice scraps and markings under the car from it being so low for our great country roads..
also found a cracking/splitting front sway bar end link. more money... sigh...

PS which kit did you go with?
well i reckon smf conversion is the way to go. the increased performance is very noticable. the car revs faster and easier, the stage 1 clutch grabs like a mofo, the fuel consumption is a little bit better. the car is a bit more responsive down low, but once you get to around 4.5k it feels like a vtec just kicked in - feels a lot more powerfull at the top. plus you don't have to worry about breaking the flywheel when you launch. the drivability hasn't been compromised.

now the draw backs. the flywheel chatter on idle is loud. with the windows up it is very intrusive as there are no other noises heard. so if you want a quiet cruising machine, the smf is probably not for you. but if you like me and have your music on every time you drive and windows DOWN lol, then the performancec gain more than compensates for it

I got the billet steel 16.5lbs flywheel and a stage 1 clutch from fourseasonstuning.com. there is a thread on a vwvortex with all the info you need. pm me if you need a link.

PS. dave, why don't you just take all the mods from your car, sell it, buy mine, bolt everything on it and still have some cash in a pocket?

why... about 80000km on the clock .. thats why and I am in tune with it, your Bora will have its own nuances...

On vibration and noises..I recently upgraded to the 034 Motorsport Street Density engine mounts and ECS dogbone mount bushes.. so I get more vibrations in the cabin, especially with A/C running at idle.

pretty sure the idle chatter is very well known, there's a bit on vortex i think.
It's particularly bad with the air con on.
Funnily enough, if you depress the clutch it goes quieter.
I think that is because it is the motor making the gearbox vibrate.
But with the air con off, it's not very noticeable, though still not the nicest sound, but neither is the motor in general.
I've been thinking of an exhaust upgrade to help disguise the chatter!

Actually Yevvy, you saying its louder with the windows up?
Mine is louder with the windows down because then i can hear it from outside of the car, whereas sounds like you can hear it from inside the car?
Maybe you've got some hard engine mounts that are transfering the sound through the whole cabin?

                          • after a couple of days driving i noticed that sometimes the chatter disappears. with a clutch in the chatter is completely eliminated. maybe when the clutch will completely brake in, it will quieten down a little, who knows.

mcdub, no my mounts are stock. its just when my windows are down you can hear the wind, birds, cars...babies so you can't hear the chatter as much. but when you roll them up, the outstanding vw insulation just amplifies the chatter coming from the firewall. but i can live with it, and hopefully it won't put off too many buyers
