Could have sworn I capitalised that properly (GTI).

And no fuss, just letting you know. Amusingly enough, with VW owning Suzuki now, GTi is their's too!

          • What have I done to my mk4 (golf/bora) today? is probably stretching it but over the last couple of weeks the R has been sitting with Lucas from Eurospeed. Drop in performance started towards the end of last year with the engine underperforming between 2000 and 4500 rpm. 4 hours of diagnosis and the major culprit is a damaged seal and oil in the supercharger. With one problem leading to the next, a 75,000km service looming and the need to remove the s/c for fabrication and reconditioning, the opportunity was taken to give the R a good working over replacing and/or upgrading various components:

            Completed
            • 264 deg Sport Cam shafts
            • Oil Filter
            • Fuel Filter
            • Cabin Filter
            • Valve Cover Gasket
            • Penrite Sin Oil
            • VF Billet Bypass Vales
            • VF Supercharger Belts
            • VF SC Silicone hose kit with Clamps
            • VF SC Pulley
            • VF RHS Engine Mount
            • VF LHS Engine mount
            • K&N Filter wash and re-oil
            • Techtonics Exhaust
            • NGK Platinum Spark Plugs
            • Nulon Red Concentrated Coolant
            • Haldex oil
            • Haldex filter
            • Mass Air Flow Meter

            Remaining
            • GIAC Race GAS tune
            • Fabrication to the Techtonics exhaust

Lucas from Eurospeed was recommended to me by another member of the forum community and I can’t speak highly enough regarding his knowledge, workmanship and communication.

Check that those bolts in the fuse box are tight and they don't move at all. If they get lose its arcs that causes heat which will then burn the wire. By the time the fuse burns the box has already melted.

                  Good stuff Al!!

There were many late nights spent on this car and lots of scraped fingers and arms getting into all those tight spots!!

                  Have fun with it!!

                    • Had the police dust my car for prints.
Why? I was in town for the Bathurst 12 hour when somebody thought they'd like the Golf R32 parka sitting on my back seat. The buggers smashed a rear door window and rifled through the car, taking my GPS and a couple of other things as well.

I got done for speeding about four hours before the break-in too. 10 km/h over trhe limit in the Blue Mountains... $198 fine I think.

                          • Yeah was insured for the glass but not contents.

O'Briens are replacing the glass at no cost to me - not even an excess!
P.S in case you're wondering, the rear drivers' side door glass (that goes up and down, not the fixed bit) on a Mk4 is worth $495. :O

Check your policy - there's generally some allowance in a standard policy for valuables in the car. Whether you can prove they were there and thus get insurance to pay out may be a different issue...
