I adjusted my shocks, made them firmer than a honeymooner's preverbial! Damn this golf is stiff now, I can feel my back fat jiggle even running on 14s with 75mm sidewall tires!!!

Mate, i'd like to go to 18's but I can just imagine feeling my gums bleed and my kidneys being pulverised, 19's would have my eyeballs leaking! Ooooh but it would be worth it!
I'm looking at 17's, just for the price difference and that weeny bit extra compliance, buying a 1st home and all that the funds are a little stretched these days, especially with those mo fo's at the RBA....sigpic

This is why I stuck with 17s on my Bora - the compromised ride quality on Sydney roads just doesn't make 18s worthwhile for my purposes.Originally posted by gavs View PostMate, i'd like to go to 18's but I can just imagine feeling my gums bleed and my kidneys being pulverised, 19's would have my eyeballs leaking! to be honest the 18s werent to bad at all, however you definitely notice the nicer ride with 17s for sure. v2's are great, cant fault them and its smooth as could be im sure but yeah 19s nasty! i do have my 17s for that reason, maybe next week ill swap
home loan and mods, your crazy

It's tricky. As much as I'd love to grab 17s or 18s for mine I do a lot of driving on crap roads and sometimes gravel too. I like the compliance of 16s... I think they suit the car very well. Maybe not looks-wise, but I see the Mk4 GTI as a cruisey mini-luxo car, not something to bait Type Rs and 911s with.Originally posted by Manaz View PostThis is why I stuck with 17s on my Bora - the compromised ride quality on Sydney roads just doesn't make 18s worthwhile for my purposes.

I just want to fit some decent tyres to the car, I can shame most 1990's rice rockets and aussie "muscle" cars when it comes to the corners (Hello 50kph hairpins!) but feeling the sidewalls flexing is just too un-nerving.
Some R specs would go down a treat........sigpic

Keep a look out on ebay for wheels.
If you dont want to end up with crap tread due to costings, your better off grabbing a good set of second hand tyres for 1/4 the price which would last you the same as the cheaper tyres anyhow ..
Just keep looking, things always pop up!What’s behind you doesn’t matter..

I'm on my second set of Bridgestone adrenalines, I'm pretty happy with those.Originally posted by gavs View PostI know!

They key in really well after that little bit of flex (which will always be around on 16s)

Yeah I keep an eye on ebay, I'm not really that fussed on the look of the wheels (some 17" bora sports would be nice though....) I just want wheels that can take good tyres, eiter 17 or 18".....I can always back off the stiffness on the shocks for better ride quality

Bora Sports seem rare enough that the demand for them is quite high, and their prices are generally quite high as a result.Originally posted by gavs View PostYeah I keep an eye on ebay, I'm not really that fussed on the look of the wheels (some 17" bora sports would be nice though....) $600 to $800 for a set isn't unheard of.Nothing to see here...

I'd happily pay that, especially seeing as "cheap" brand spanking wheels cost around the $800 mark!
Does anyone know if any larger diameter steel wheels fit our (stupid) 5x100 stud pattern? I can't remember for the life of me where I saw it, it might have been a photoshopped image, but I actually don't mind the look of a larger diameter steel wheel on a lowered golf, especially in black. I think it would look ok offset against the metallic green of my car, make it look like a baby nascar....Maybe not such a good thing to look like though!!sigpic
