  • ok, cool, thanks all!

Yep, sounds like I definitely need a clay bar and such. Turns out one of the girls I work with is married to the guy that owns Car Care Products, so once I get some actual 'spare' cash, I'll head out there to see him and get the low-down on all that gear, and hopefully afford the things I want...
Dark Grey Mk4 Golf, 1.8T GTI conversion, APR stage 1, stock air intake, FMIC, 3" to 2.5" Exhaust, FK AK Street Coils, Black 18" (Avant Garde M310's ?), tinted tails, ...

They made a big difference for me. And were stupidly cheap from powerbulbs.co.uk...

          • What do you regard stupidly cheap as? These bulbs sell for $40 a pair online... which I think is quite expensive.

This is what I had before and they were $10 and the bulb construction, beam pattern was exceptional.

i did notice a huge difference when i switched to philips +100% on the Bora .. the light was more noticable and vision improved .. one of the best After market ones out there .. what year model is the car ? some cars get voltage drop as the wiring gets older .. happened with my MK3 .. what you could do to improve it is make a headlight wiring harness like this : How to make a headlight wiring relay kit
and it worked for me very well .. you'd be surprised how much a light can be brighter.

Narva are far from a poor brand, granted.

But be aware that beam pattern has nothing to do with your bulb, and everything to do with your reflectors - so changing bulbs won't change that.

I noticed a substantial increase in overall light output when I moved to the Philips Extreme Vision bulbs. That said, I use H4s in the Bora (as opposed to H7s in the Mk4 Golf), so there could be a difference there.

I actually have a set of projector headlights ready for the Bora - if I put those in, I'll be going to H7 bulbs too.

                • My projectors have H1 bulbs - I recommend the Powerbulbs place and the Philips ones are brighter, but my beams are rubbish! High Beam is brillant, but Low beam is dodgy, that's why I got the more powerful bulbs... I am kind of stuck with them tho because of the awesomeness of my Boser bonnet, which is my favourite mod... if I went back to standard (I wouldn't mind doing that) then my indicators would be slightly obstructed from view by the bonnet, and I wouldn't want to have a problem with someone not seeing me turning and having an accident and a problem with insurance. Just got me thinking, Maybe it's possible to swap indicator with foglight? Not sure on that one...

                      • It's an option on the "rough road" version of Golf/Bora/Octavia etc

It is just the black plastic piece under the rear half of the floor. The fuel line runs inside the metal duct at the front.

Clips straight onto the fuel pipes.

                        Costs about $30 from VW. Part number 1J0 201 488 C

I always worry when I look at the stock fuel line "protection". Will be grabbing one of these.

                            Cheers!
