My detailing guy tried much the same technique but it only came back again after 6 months. Think the best thing to do would be invest in some glass lenses
There is a US company making after market glass one that are apparently top quality, im still waiting to hear back on some of their other gear, but otherwise GB?

Yeah the lights work fine through the stockings. To be legal the brake lights have to be visible from 30m and tail lights from 200m. And yeah, I'd love to drop it haha, just strapped for cash
OK, about 1 1/2 months ago, I spent $2000 on timing belt, water pump, thermostat, rocker cover gasket, etc. ...and a split drive shaft and wheel bearing!! I couldn't really afford it at the time, so I had to book it all up on my credit card.
This was all perfect, and immaculate in the engine bay, not even a whiff of oil let alone a drip, perfect.
... Then, 1 week ago, I smelt a lot of oil and the car started surging, but not the revs. Turns out the lovely 1.6L gearbox had ***** itself, including a crack in the housing!!
Now looking at $3200 for a re-conditioned gearbox installed!! I rang 'ASV euro car parts' and Brooky spares' for the lowest quote of $1000, then add $6-700 install and a $300 clutch and I'm looking at $2000 just for a 2nd hand one with the same inherent problems!!! And my credit card is already maxed out from the last repairs. NOT HAPPY JAN!!
Does anyone out there know of a 1.6L gearbox ('DUU' I believe) for sale?? Ideally a second hand one that has previously been reconditioned !! ??
This is for a MK4 Golf, 1.6L 'AKL' engine, 5sp Manual 'DUU' gearbox. The car is in Alexandria, Sydney, NSW.
I now have no car, and catching 2-3 busses for only a 11-12km trip each way to work!! DESPERATE !!!
Dark Grey Mk4 Golf, 1.8T GTI conversion, APR stage 1, stock air intake, FMIC, 3" to 2.5" Exhaust, FK AK Street Coils, Black 18" (Avant Garde M310's ?), tinted tails, ...
Spent most of the weekend up at Back Door's place fitting the new clutch kit on the GTI.
A few hiccups along the way, had to crack open the diff to get the transmission to clear the subframe & ended up needing to bleed the new clutch which we hadn't expected but good experience and a great result

Decided to take the stockings off my tail lights. Don't want to be branded a ricer and decided it was probably going to give me more grief than anything as far as defects etc. Got my hands on some replica Audi RS4 wheels yesterday (the older ones, not the new models) so I'll upload some new photos when I pick up my VW centercaps tomorrow
