        • Not really interested in circuit racing, to much argy bargy for my liking and you'd have to pay me a lot of money to let Paul crash my car.

I prefer tarmac stage rallies, if I crash there is only one person to blame.

          • THE NAVIGATOR!!!

Hehe. I'm trying to justify hill climbs to my wife. She's not keen on the insurance factor. I wouldn't be trying to win or anything, just enjoying the car.

            • True that, But Marti (my wife) wouldn't cop it, last time when we almost had an oops moment she was at pains to tell me it was all my fault and not her calling the notes. As you can see she's much to busy waving to the crowd to get any notes wrong We know we're never going to beat the likes of Jim Richards or Tony Quinn or their budgets, our motto is have fun and finish.

              • Hey Al,

Yeh, whats the point in all the weight saving ! It's a be everything car lol.

You don't use a HANS device do you ? I was thinking of one for my audi 80 q but I am not so sure as some have said it really restricts movement...

Did you look at many other seats when you bought yours ? I was thinking of some racing recaros but, I like Sparco's range as well...

                  Haha!

That's awesome that you and your wife do such a thing together. I hope I'm fortunate enough to lure my partner into such a thing - although I get hit in the arm plenty of times driving as is.

Great photo by the way. Have you got a bigger version?

He hasn't saved much weight as the weight of the half cage and all the weight of the ICE he has installed will replace any weight he has taken out But like I said he has done a very nice job with it.

With regards to the HANS devices, we haven't purchased HANS devices yet but they are on our list of must have items and both our helmets have the HANS mounting posts on them. I have tried a mates helmet with his HANS device for a few of laps at QR and while it seemed cumbersome at first I got used to it quickly and didn't really notice it after 3 or 4 laps so we will definitely be getting a couple of them.

I looked at Recaro, Racetech and the Sparco's and sat in each model I was interested in buying for around 15 minutes, the Sparco's suited me best. I would like to get some new ones with lateral head restraints once we change the cage out to a full weld in cage but that's around 12 months away.

                    Cheers Al

Sorry that's the largest I'm afraid. You should do as much as you can to get her involved, we have a blast and we treat it like a holiday when we go to an event and always have a great time.

EDIT: I forgot to say, it also makes it much easier to get the new modification purchases approved as she has a vested interest in making it faster/safer/better now

                      Cheers Al

Bob Pearson left his HANS device on the shelf at this year's Bathurst 12 hour. He crashed straight on at forrests elbow and cracked his ribs and a couple of vertbra. I spoke with him after the crash and he said he'd have been fine had he been wearing the HANS device.

There are good reasons why they are mandatory in categories like V8 Supercar and F1.

Plenty of guys I've worked with in the V8s swear by them, but a couple aren't keen. If I remember rightly Brad Jones rolled his V8 and couldn't get out quickly becuse he was upside down, trying to negotiate his way through the cage etc while wearing the device.

                        • Definitely a must have Mr Messy I agree 100%. Was Bob the one in the Blue Mazda who binned it so spectacularly? I noticed on the 12 hour webpage they are using the images as promo material, not a nice way to get recognised. I was suprised when he basically walked away from that, if I remember correctly it spat the motor out of the chassis in one of the many rolls it took through the kitty litter.

                          • You're thinking of Len Cave's 2008 rollover in the MPS.

Pearson was driving one of these:

A classic example of why they have become mandatory was Dale Ernhart senior in NASCAR. Hit the wall with such speed that his skull detatched from his spine and killed him instantly. That's what they're for and i know that i'd rather the slight inconvenience over a detached head.....

On another note, I just opened up my whiteline swaybar and it's missing 2 washers!!! Grrrrrr

                              • Yes, I guess, I am looking at it from the point of view of a motorcyclist A normal car is already about 60x safer

But I agree, I will get one with Hans device etc. only sucky thing is, is my motorbike helmet won't have HANS attachments so need to get a new one.

That suck's re the washsers, can you use the old ones ?
