Without any other mods except swapping in the DSG air intake, my MAF log went from maximum 187.03 g/s to 194.36 g/s
This equates to ~5 hp
A guy at a tyre place once asked me if I had a pod filter fitted so it does give a nice sound as well.
Definitely an improvement in readings from the MAF (will quantify later). Car feels smoother through the rev range, seems to have helped reduce the dip in power/torque just before 2,500rpm too.
It's another option, almost certainly cheaper and undoubtably a good one for many people, but I didn't choose it because:
1. I'm trying to stick to OEM as much as possible. I realise there's no requirement for me to do so, but it's the way I'm pushing with the car.
2. Although you're sucking air in from a different spot and potentially getting some "ram-air" effect (popular on motorbikes!), you're still restricted by the size of the hole as the new pipe enters the airbox. The DSG airbox has a much bigger (it'd have to be close to twice the cross-section!) hole for the air to flow in through, and that's the benefit I was looking for.
3. Shouldn't matter TOO much, but the air path looks longer and more convoluted than the OEM option. Would probably matter more if I was chasing the last few tenths of a percent for race work, but probably not a big issue on the road!
Washed my car yesterday and almost cried because the paint is so f**ked should have spent a few hours worth of polishing and waxing but really didn't feel like it....
Feels like it's pulling a bit harder. Nothing huge but yeah, there's a little difference.
You may want to look at your MAF if you had significant oil buildup in your intercooler - you may find that the hot wire is dirty (oily), which would throw out readings - a cleaned (carefully!) or new MAF may help.
