  • VAG Tacho cable and sw

    Hi All,

I have found a few threads that refer to VAG Tacho software and enabling the "Distance to Empty" feature on the Mk 4 instrument cluster MFD.

Does anybody in Sydney have such a cable and had success with this?

    Thanks in advance.

I assume you mean the VAGCOM cable

There are a few guys on here who have done it, none have made any complaints. If you watch the NSW events forum, you'll find when there's a catch-up happening - well worth asking those who are coming along if they have VAGCOM and are willing to help out - the cable & software is close to $1000 to buy (the Aussie dollar's weakness against the USD is hurting)!
      Nothing to see here...

I ahev the fleeBay rip off of the RossTech cable. If you know what measuring block needs to be changed I canged it can be organised easy enough

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

I have the ebay cable and tried tacho 2.2, but it didn't work for me.
Kept saying there was a K-Line error, but I pulled the stereo and everything out, checked the K-Line voltage, which was ok. Weird thing is that VAG-COM can communicate with the instrument cluster OK.

Let us know if it works... i wasn't sure if it was my car or cable. If it doesn't work with the ebay cable, i'm happy to buy one... would really love DTE function!

No the VAG Tacho is a different beast. It does stuff like the distance to empty on the MFD, cluster lights turning on when accessories turn on (as opposed to having to turn the parkers on) and scary dodgy stuff like changing the odometer. As far as I know these things can't be done with VAGCOM or done easily. Nifty little tool.

Totally different cable guys. Vagtacho is for Instrument clusters only and only for vehicle running on K wire, not can bus, so no MK5 and New A3

I got the same K-line error as Sierra055... so no luck here either.

Looks like i might have to get another cable... does anybody have one of these in Sydney that I can borrow?

Ah fellas if you have an aftermarket stereo it can ground the k wire or may have 12v which can even zap your laptop!!!!! Original Stereo and all is good

                            Manaz,

if your interested, wanna go halves? or the more the merrier.... I dont think this is locked to use on one car only.

vagproducts websites lists them at USD70.. so were looking about AUD110

Doesn't sound like a bad idea (especially since I ran the tank dry a few weeks ago thinking I had a few litres left - SWMBO wasn't amused!) - how soon were you looking to order?
