  • Pretty keen to kill someone.

Ok well i got my car (00 golf GLE) about a week and a half ago.

Someone has managed to key the entire drivers door and about 15 - 20 cm of the rear drivers side door. Sooo happy with this as im sure you can imagine.

Anyway, unless i find out who did this im not going to get it fixed as the car still works fine and in reality its only cosmetic, although seriously aggitating.

Im wondering if anyones got some tips on trying to get as much of it out as possible. Its deep enough to the point you can feel a scratch if you run your finger vertically up and down the door so its not going to buff out but i wanna try and do some damage control on it.

try something like meguires scratch x, or paint doctor; then put a good wax/polish over it, makes it less obvious.

Turtle Wax have a polish out ( colour restore I think) it comes with a little wax chipstick (like a lipstick) that you can use to fill in the scratch with before you apply the coloured wax over the top to mask it. I used it on an old car I had years back which had fairly badly crazed paintwork (crows feet) on the bonnet and it worked surprisingly well with that. There are other brands with similar products out as well so there are choices. Just remember this is only a temporary cover up and you'll probably need to reapply it every couple of months. If it's a non metallic colour you could even consider getting a bottle of touch up paint and use that with a fine paintbrush. Once it has hardened properly you could carefully use some very fine wet and dry paper and then a light cut and polish to finish it off with.

had the same sorta thing happen to me on my old golf.. it was black.. some1 keyed the drivers side down to the rear quarter..

i had a panel beater buff it out and then go over it with scratch x... it made it alot less noticable .. most of it went away it..

so if u know a good detailer or buffer.. giv them a go.

makes me sick that some can have such little respect for others property...

i came out of work the other night to find someone had deliberatley slammed a shopping trolley into my door, which has left a big dent and it sticks out like dogs balls! makes my blood boil...

            bloody disgusting i say...

you could try one of those paint repair companies such as chips away who come out and fix little things like this up for you....from memory prices range from about $100-$250 to repair the damage you mentioned...

tehy also give free quotes so it cant hurt to make some enquiries...

And this is where I point to Pulp Fictions words of wisdom when it comes to this sort of thing.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

                    Start here:

and look for the section starting:
                    Lance: Still got your Malibu?

                    and ending:
Vincent: It's just against the rules.

Even if I posted the middle half of it would be **** Gotta love Pulp Fiction

I share you're pain, we brought a brand new Ford Fiesta late last year (only just covered 4000K's now) and some low life has done the same thing to both the drives door AND the rear pasenger door . Chances are that if you can feel the scratch you will need to get it re-painted, you may find the clear coat can be resprayed if the scratch is not too deep but either way it's a trip to the spray booth.

I had my girlfriend in tears not that long ago, she parked her car out the front of her sister's apartment in Richmond (melb), we came out in the morning and some infantile, un-respectfull f**kwit had jumped onto the roof of her car and put 2 huge dents in it where they had, judging by the marks in the dust, tried to do a "dukes of hazzard" slide over her roof!!!

Lucky they popped out when she opened then slammed the door, but I was ropeable!!!
