I believe VW have a repair kit which replaces the original plastic clips with metal clips. Check with Solitaire I guess or another VW outlet in your area (sorry not from SA), about $120 from memory I think?
Is it worth doing this proactively on a 2003 Bora V6 4Motion? I park my car in the open all day, I don't fancy having my windows left wound down all day if the plastic clips break...

If only the barstards at VW made a repair kit for mk3's...
I'd suggest as the mk4's become 10-15 yrs old all the plastic crap will definitely go. It'd be a very good selling point (if needs be) to have metal window parts
