Brake Upgrade in Bora 4 Motion

I finally got around to upgrading my rims on my Bora and for the same reason I baulked on lowering my car (bad local roads) -I went with 17" Siata 7x17 OEMs which I picked up fairly cheaply rather than what I was looking at originally which was 18" RS4 replicas - still it is more rubber than the 16"OEMs I had before. Combined with Koni FSDs the improvement in the ride been great especially with the Neuspeed front and rear sway bars - thanks to Ian from Rennenhaus for the advice there.

Anyway now to the brakes. I had been looking at upgrading and I had seen the EBC Series 1 & 2 kits with Porsche callipers but I was wondering what else was around that won't break the bank (especially as the $AUD is so bad at the moment.

On the Neuspeed site I noticed this product:

Does anyone know anything about it? I'm pretty sure the American market got the 288mm on their Jettas and we have the 312mm on the Bora V6 - so even still a 323mm and decent pads should be an improvement. As I'm looking for mainly street use (and perhaps the very occasional track day)- do you guys think this is suitable? Or would you recommend simply a pad upgrade (green stuff or something)? - but with 70k on the clock perhaps the rotors won't be around for much longer anyway.

300mm plus is pretty big already, how about slotted or drilled rotors and green or red stuff pads? I reckon that'd be a good combo. I think MJM Autohaus do upgrade kits like that.

BTW, pics of your car with the new rims are MANDATORY!!

I'll get the camera out once I've sorted the brakes as I'm pretty sure this will be the last upgrade I'll do for a while-

Pretty sure their kits come with braided lines too.

Remember there is a lot of weight behind the 4motion so thus the need for the bigger brake kits. But personally I think you would be hard pressed to get the standard 4motion stuff to fade properly. Maybe on a track but you should try pads and rotors first or otherwise look for an R32 upgrade which I think is 323 mm. Also remember to factor in the weight of the bigger disks etc often it can detriment handling and performance.

Brembo kits are always going to be good. I think that's what the charged Bora has, don't go with cross-drilled, prone to hair-line cracks.

only real men have big brakes , no i love my brake kit 355mm up front 6 piston clipers, 4 piston rears, stops on a dime going from the r32 brakes i had these are way better, did i need them prob not but who cares i have them.

QS- I know you have looked into this a bit - do you think the Brembo kit is overpriced (simply paying for the name) and it sounds like from the advice I would be better just going EBC slotted rotors with green pads? What sort of quotes have people got for this setup?

I have RDA slotted/dimpled disks + Redstuff pads. Give James at Audvolks a call and tell him I told you about mine. (Dylan)

The setup now is pretty good stops nicely and doesn't fade easily, plus there is still enough feel on start off even on the very cold mornings to stop also there has been a big reduction in brake dust. If I had the choice again I probably would have tried for an R32 kit but I needed mine quite quickly.

What is the Brembo kit cost landed ? Your only going to need this if you are doing more track days regularly or if you really drive aggresively on the road.

Ask the owner of the charged bora about his brakes, they are Brembo not sure of they are 2 or 1 piece. But remember his is charged and thus needs the extra stopping power.

Thing is do you really need that much stopping power ? In your case probably yes because your car is quite highly tuned. Even if I had the money for 6 pot stuff not so sure I would go for it unless I was doing some serious work with my car i.e. Serious track work.

But yah they do look awesome !

Unsprung mass can be quite critical, and I have heard that the R32 brakes are a bit heavy. I'm hoping that down the track I'll be able to replace the discs with something a little lighter to reduce weight, I'll have to see how things go.

The recommendation for EBC Redstuffs is interesting, pads is one thing I've never been really up to speed on, I'll have to do some research here.
