  • What to do with 01m transmission failure?

my golf auto 1.6L mk4 is now having 170K on the clock. Recently after several long time drivings of 6-8hours, it was LIMPed and got an AT code 01192 when engine hot. It had been serviced by previous owner about 30K ago.

I have heard of stories of ridiculous cost in fixing transmission issues but still want to listen to your advice or suggestions whether it is worth repairing.

    many thanks.

transmission specialist Scott just drove the car and said it is not transmission but possibly engine problem, related to a knocking engine noise. He suggested to try RON 98 petrol, see if it improves.

the initial trial on RON 98 petrol( from 7/11 station) has fixed the problems, both knocking noise of the engine, and transmission lockup.

            wonderful!

I thought it would go to a wrecker.

I found my 2l performed better and went that much further on a tank of 98

Further drives confirmed transmission failures associated with petrol. Now RON 95 is way to go and get the best result.
