  • Locker Diffs.

How would a Front drive handel on asphalt with a locker diff?

I have a fair idea what will hapen on the dirt, which is why i want it, but what about on the drive to work?

Is it just gunna snap axels?

I am sorta looking at either a custom made Air locker, from Keysbourgh diffs, or a CIG locker, from Science's welding shed.

what's the definition of understeer again?

The drive to work... around roundabouts, have you even heard the term "pigrooting"? Think about it.

I wouldn't if i was you. Just put a peloquin in it or something.

Locked diff on a FWD is a HUGE NO NO!! As preeny says the understeer will be horrendous and you'd be lucky to do a u-turn over a 6 lane highway no exaggeration! I've tried this on RC cars and it's atrocious! PLEASE DON'T DO IT!!!!!

The Gibson Motorsport Exa has a locked diff and doesnt appear to understeer at all on track, it handles sooo damn well! I was soo surprised to find out it had a locker! Mate of mine in Vic owns the car..

Not having a go Lorenz but I find that really hard to believe, even in a 4WD if you lock the front diff it massively decreases your turn in. The exa may have an adjustable LSD that can be almost locked but a fully locked diff in a FWD it would be lucky to get round the corners on a track without going straight ahead, not to mention the torque steer

They will work on race cars, because you use much, much less steering input and your car speed is much higher. But if you do it to a road car, the thing will understeer like a bitch and be a pain to drive.

So do it, and just dont break for corners!

I must say the logic does make sense that it's a no no in a FWD. Keen to hear more about this EXA. My first hatch was a ET pulsar and I wish I still had it. I loved that car and it was a barrel of fun to drive.

                Hahaha, yeah that'll work!

My mate from work had an ET. bigger turbo n stuff (made the manifold from steam pipe and TIG welded it at work, very nice). It went pretty hard. Handled like a boat..

It was a vast improvement over the escort I had prior. It's handling was part of it's charisma - you had to own one to understand it I think. Some of our member from the coast may remember it, bright orange on it's belly, debadged and smoothed with black black windows. It was a regular at Terrigal on a thursday night.

Hehehe, I'll never forget looking in my RHS mirror and seeing you thinking that's and odd angle only to find you again when I looked in my LHS mirror opposite lock.

OMG, i completly forgot about my mates ET pulsar.
its got some weird locker in it, where its got some big arsed springs that hold tention, and it acts like a locker, with the slightest amount of play in it. I think. I never actualy worked out how it worked. What ever it did, it was a replacment for an LSD center. But yeah, big f off springs.

Also just been talking to a bloke who is mates with a guy who rallys a FWD lancer, or mirage, and its got a locker, and it turns in like a bastard on the road.

Sounds like a really tight LSD to me.
