throtal cable ?

well it starts with the vr6 hmm , when i firs got it was ok with the idle about 600 rpm ? after a week while driving around it started to get a bit higher everday !! and so on to the point one day it was hovering at nearly 1900rpm ?so i checked the throttal body and found this screw idle wound it down and aok , but my revs are still not idleing smooth , going up and down a fraction at idle or at stop light ect..

Mate you have got an air leak, busted vac pipe,crankcase breather or something along these lines causing it to draw air and raise the idle. Mate you should spray around with some leak detector spray and find the culprit

Carby cleaner is the best air leak finder I reckon!

all the hoses around the manifold are crimped so i cant really take them off ?? carby cleaner ?

There is an idle screw? Isn't it all computer controlled?

You can reset the thottle body through VAG-COM, although my understanding is that it resets itself over time anyway.

I find that my idle will go up and down a little in time with the blinker when the lights are on. Apparently the car is a little over zelous in sensing a voltage drop and trys to up the revs to compensate when the indicator blinks, then drops back when it doesn't {repeat}... Again, apparently, BMW's do the same thing.

Mind you I haven't checked if that still happens since I have replaced the battery...

Have you got, or do you know someone who can run a VAG-COM scan to see if it's throwing any codes?

my CL is currently in the shop for a number of things, and the idling being one of them. There was a crack in the o-ring underneath the throttle body which was letting air in and causing problems...

Aaron, i know mine has an idle screw, i adjusted it the other day... i'm sure the vr6 will as well, even the newer cars do nowadays i'm pretty sure...

behind the throttal cable yes , when the windows go up and hit the top deals the revs go up as well i cant see that being a problem !!the idle screw looks like a scew but with a rubber dome with a metal insert ? when it was idling high i was always turing it back but now seems to be stable minus the revs going up and down ever slightly you know what i mean ?

Sticking by air leak mate and u check when the engine is running so crimped pipes dont make a difference. Crankcase breathers are bad on them mate, spray around the valve at the tappet cover, notorious. Doesnt take a big leak to alter the idle mate

Hey guys, today I started my car for first time since last monday (5 days) cos no licence...

anyways, i let it idle for a bit when it was on my driveway and i noticed the idle go to about 1,200rpm and eventually (like 1.5mins) went back down again, before i just turned it off...

My first thought was the timing was out - cos i think my tensioner's going - making it idle weird but I remembered reading this thread, would this be the same sort of deal with an air leak?

Sounds like cold cycle to me
