Pretty soon I will be getting vicroads europlates in the mail. Just wondering how others have installed these things? I dont really wanna drill holes into the plate, or make new holes in my car. Also the plate holders dont look good. Double sided tape sounds like the best idea, is that gonna hold alright? Whats the best kind for the job?

suck it up and drill some holes... anything else makes them too easy to steal.

I painted the ends of the screws black once I had them in place and they match up surprisingly well with the plates. I don't have pics But I'll see if I can take some tonight.

Make up a little bracket out of metal strips. With a hole for the old screw holes and ones for the new ones. Wouldnt take long to make and wouldnt mean drilling holes in the car. I did a similar thing on my old car when I ordered square jap sized plates, worked a treat.

Heavy duty double sided tape the only way don't drill holes cause they will end up in the worst place where you don't want them right on the edge where you don't want them.
I'm soo euro even my missus is shaved...

Mine have held on pretty well for the last 2 1/2 years with some 3M Double sided body moulding tape, iasked a body shop for mine and he gave me what he had left on roll. Just give it a clean before you stick them on and it will be OK.

Just drill holes.. they're covered by the plate anyway.

Here's what you could do to the front:

              Past: Mk3 Golf 2L 8V, Audi 8L A3T.
              Present: Mk3 Golf variant.

Cheers for the suggestions. Those plate holders than can hide the plate are pretty awesome i saw them on vwvortex. I'm wondering how they mount the plates in germany and what not i guess they have some sort of holder.

A couple of things. You would need to modify the bar in a couple of ways for these to work.

#1: You would need to smooth the bumper or it's sort of pointless.
#2: You have to modify under the bar to attach the thing.

If your up for both of those, go ahead, I think it's a great idea, I just can't justify the expense for my car

As for other mounting options. When I couldn't find a set of mounting plates to suit my Sydney Olympic plates I made up my own out of a sheet of aluminium. Basically it is a plate cut down as small as possible. (If you really wanted you could make it the same size as your new number plate)

                      Mounting plate:

Cut some garden hose in half, drill a hole in it, then use it sort of like a washer when you mount the "mounting plate" to the car, this should absorb most if not all the vibration between the number plate and the mounting plate.

                      Vibration reduction device:

To mount the plate itself, you want to get some 8mm bolts with two nuts for each. Reverse mount the 8mm bolt and attach a nut, attach the mounting plate to the car, the attach the number plate to the reverse mounted bolts. Add the last couple of nuts and your done.

Here is a cross section of the finished product:

If you look really close in these photo's you can make out the mount behind the number plate:

Oh, the other upside, if you also use 8mm bolts to mount your front plate it will stop the random number plate theft as the crims normally carry a phillips head screw driver, not an 8mm socket

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

the plate holders vicroads sell look horrible cos theyre a dodgy matte finish.
I have some nice gloss black finish ones which I think look quite nice.

cant really see them so well in the pic but yeah they look ok i thought

I ended up using heavy duty double sided tape, good stuff that. Here's the result for those who are interested.
