  • Finally got some wheels! Meet Gretchen.

    One word, stoked!
Picked her up on Saturday up at Quakers Hill, NSW. Had to fly up, met Dad up there, then we drove it back together on Sat night and all day today (Sunday). You may recognise this beauty from here, it's Mark's oldie, and now my new baby.
Waited until later on tonight to head down to the local Safeway for some late-night parking lot shots (how cliche). It's a bit damp, and dirty from the big trek back to Melb, but she handled it so nicely. It's an absolute dream to drive. Very happy with it.

^ Represent Focal. I need a VWW sticker, someone point me in the right direction?

Light was pretty restricting, hence the lack of happy snaps.

Short-term plans include a spray-bombed and rusted out hood. I'm heading over to a self-serve/pick a part soonish, so hopefully I'll be able to pick up a MK3 hood to serve as my 'canvas'. I had some sweet dali-inspired stencil(s) ready to roll. Maybe there I'll try and grab a grill to do a badgeless conversion. Some roof racks would be ideal too, I have a BMX/Fixed and need to transport them (mainly the BMX, but the likely scene will be two bikes).

Some point (soon, i hope...) I'll slam 'er, and then maybe get some widescreen steelies happening. Who knows!? But in the mean time I have to afford petrol, being a poor design student does that to ya hey.

    Cheers,
    Cam.

NB; Gretchen? Where'd that come from? Typically, I wanted a name beginning with 'G', as that's what colour the car is. Wanted a female name. All the female names beginning with 'G' led me back to haunting memories, or people who I no longer like, except Gretchen. Think 'Gretchen' from Donnie Darko (Jena Malone). Hot.

Congrats mate Love your ideas haha, would be a hoot to see a Mk3 like that. But as I always say, suspension first!

As for roof racks, you can't beat these: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....MEWA:IT&ih=002
Hard to find these Thule items around here (discontinued now); the only time I've seen another set was also on eBay and it went to me Outbidded a few people at ~$110.

Looking good!! I like your ideas about the bonnet and rack etc..To pull it off right the car needs to be low low low. $500 coils?? Also wtf are those black things on your rear bar??

Is that left rear wheel missing a bolt? Doesn't look like it's just the cover...

I like your plans for it though, should be good!
Yeah I think I might follow Lorenz's path...Pick up some cheapish coils, and then all the bushings and mounts etc.
I'm planning on working alot in the next 9 weeks, as I'm on uni holidays, so hopefully I'll find some coin in there to set-aside for Gretchen

Hahah nah mate, I wouldn't consider myself as 'hardcore'. I just knew one of the dudes through MTB and then he went to BMX, I followed about 9 months later, and now I ride with all of them on Wednesday nights. Good bunch of guys.

                Thanks for the comments guys!

Yeah it's the auto. Kind of dissapointing, but better in the long run (until I'm 21). I would've had to re-learn how to drive a manual, pay for some lessons, pay for new lisence and test (I run the risk of not passing), and there was no available bookings until after July, which would've meant I could only have one passenger in the car, restricted with high powered vehicles etc. Oh well!

You shouldn't be too worried, manual isn't all it is cracked up to be sometimes particularly when driving through traffic or when your gearbox fluid is cold Plus its a VR6!

Very nice car, and of course the right colour Have a look at some diamond racing wheels 15X8 +, or 16X8+... could those even fit on a MK3? (Ray... chime in)

Also, like you said before you are better off learning to drive stick properly rather than just on the car. I've seen too many people go from auto to manual without a lesson or any proper help and they just demolish the car. That would truly be a crime for any Golf.

Car looks nice, pity its an auto. Tha manuals are 2 seconds quicker to 100.

Still you can always convert it when the auto ****s it self.
