  • Coilover - FK Streets VS JOM VS Random red ones

    Hey guys,

I'm about to order some coilovers from the UK and was just looking for some feedback if anyone has/is running any of the following. I know they are all cheap kits and I'm not expecting the world from them, just trying to make an educated guestimate as to which ones will be "the best". I can only imagine they are all going to be quite stiff and I don't think I'll be making use of the full 120mm drop range on the red ones. Essentially wanting to lower my Mk3 a few inches and retain as best a ride as possible given the budget.

FK Streets - Seem to be the cheapest, will also take forever to get here

VW Golf MK3 1991-2001 FK AK Street Adjustable Coilover Suspension Kit Inc Cabrio | eBay

Random red ones? Have the largest lowering range that I've found

COILOVER VW GOLF MK3 8V ADJUSTABLE SUSPENSION | eBay

Then of course JOM, which seem to be ever so slightly the most expensive set and have the most restrictive lowering range but will most likely cover what I would need them for.

Any ways, keen to hear any feedback

    Cheers
    Beau

Support a local business and give Sam a call at Dub Tuned he'll sort you out with some FK's. They're pretty well the same price after shipping as the FK one's you posted up if not cheaper if he gives you a good deal.

MK3 Golf FK Coilovers - Dub Tuned

I'd always recommend KW but if you're on a budget FK are good for the price.

Ill be putting FK's in my Vento soon. Have taken delivery but just havent had time to whack em in. I got the same ones as the ones you're looking at, but through Vtech, based in Melb. However, agreed, support a local business like Dub Tuned or Vtech to get them.

And agreed, I would have gone for KW's but for now, these will do for my purposes. I chose these based on a mates recommendation and I've seen some MK5 and MK6 guys run these and have not had any problems with them

I really liked my fk's, they were a different model to the ones shown above but were quality and rode very nicely.

I bought my JOM's from this seller at $400 AUD. I haven't gotten to install them yet, but I had very quick shipping and zero issues.

If i knew of the $500 locally sourced coil overs, I probably would have gone that route.

i'm actually looking to get some suspension for a 94 vr6 which has completely shot dampers.

How are the JOM compared to the FKs?

Looking to get a cheap replacement just for a daily driver, not looking to go low maybe just a slight drop over stock, should i look at springs and dampers as well as coilovers?

            Thanks

I've read a bunch of conflicting reviews. Some say FK's are ****, some people love them, although JOM seems to have pretty solid reports. On top of that ~ I have no idea how true this is ~ I've read that majority of the cheap coilovers are made by the same manufacturer and are painted/branded differently but in terms of performance they are all pretty much the same.

I've sent dubtuned an email i regards to warranty as FK's offer 6 months which is a bit poo in comparison to 2 years on JOM's. Hmmmm!

                Appreciate all the feedback guys

Lol jom are literally the worst you can buy - same as ta technix - same as hot tunings - same as racelands|

Fk much nicer than all of the above but didn't go as low with the mk3 model

Only way Fk could be rubbished is when compared to KW - Bilsteins etc that are all worth 2 or 3 times the cost.

*all my opinion and experience. - I have owned fks and joms in a mk3

What are the problem areas of these cheap coils? Would a spring and damper package negate some of these concerns and potentially be cheaper?

Have you thought about thinking outside the box. My MK2 (identical suspension to a MK3) has Spax lowered springs with standard shocks and the ride is really good. The shorter and stiffer springs stop the body roll and the standard springs soak up the bumps much better than the cheap Hottuning coilovers I used to have. Even the Spax gas shocks I had were way too stiff.

I do a lot of driving on country roads between Canberra and the coast as well as driving around Canberra (over 1000 ks a week). The setup I have now looks great (3 inches lower), corners hard and rides well. It's a bit stiffer than standard which is how I like it. My teenage kids hate it but they aren't car enthusiasts.

                          Cheers

I've found a few reports of FK's failing in regards to shocks leaking/****ty seals which the 6 month warranty worries me a tad. Yet to hear any bad news about JOM other than the fact they sound like they would be stiff as hell.

Yeah this is what I seem to be finding from here and multiple forums. The comfort and the fact that I can get FK locally is appealing. Getting silly low isn't really on the cards as it's a daily driver (comfort) and I like my sump in one piece.
