Mk3 Golf Convertible roof replacement, straightforward?

Hey,

As the title alludes too, does anyone know how difficult it is to change the roof on a Mk3 cabrio by yourself? I've been offered a nice one locally (Byron Bay) that needs a new roof. I'm fairly good at DIY fixing and I've checked out the guide on vwvortex which makes it seem easy enough, but the company that sells the hoods recommends you take it to a professional and for it to take 6 hours to do. So I have this suspicion there is something major I'm missing.

If anyone has experience doing this or knows more than I do it would be good to hear from you!

I did mine man. Every place tells you to take it to them or take it for professional installation, even when I was asking for what glue they used...

Just follow the diy's, more the better, including the bentley manual, read over it a few times and then get to work You'll be fine

Any plans for the cabby? What colour is it?

A friend of mine did a DIY on his mk1 (different I know), but he ended up with a decent job, just took his time, which I think was a couple of days but, saved a bucket load. It's the age old time v's money thing really

Awesome, thanks for the positive encouragement guys i'm going to go ahead and tackle it myself. There's no rush because the car won't be my daily so slow, steady and methodical will be the aim.

Cabby is dark green with cream roof and cream leather interior, plans are to give it good tidy up, it's in need of tlc. I'm on the hunt for a nice set of oem wheels too as its got some not so nice aftermarket things on it at the moment, so if you know of any going let me know! I'm also keen to lower it a bit too, get it sitting nice.

Awesome I might be in need of some parts once ive figured out everything that needs sorting! Ive been away so I'll put some pics up soon.

As for the wheels, I am interested, what sort of condition are they in, legal tyres?
