Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • N/A Chips

Wondering if anyone has any experience with chips such as this: OBD1 VR6 Performance Chip - Stage 1 - Dubforce Tuning
and if they actually work significantly and have noticeable increase in performance. (Of course i know not anywhere near as much as actually turbocharging etc).

Couple of dudes are running the ebay powerchips, obd2 though. They say they are worthwhile. Best part is 7200rpm

I tried a 'abt' chip but it made a relay buzz under the dash when turned to accessories.

Whether incompatible chip or dodgy soldering i do not know. I do know that the problem is with the ecu code with have. Which is bespoke to Australia, at least what i have found thus far.

Search GIAC chip tuners in Melbourne. There's a tuner (sorry can't remember name) that can socket your ECU (OBD1 or OBD2) and provide a chip.

Basically means you can swap chips from tuned to stock.

There's a member here that had it done. I'll try and find out which tuner it was.

I looked into the eBay ones and read that you have to either send them your ECU to socket it or they provide a new socketed ECU and the postage was horrendous. That's why I decided to look into Australia based tuners.

The dubforce obd2 ones are some of the only affordable chips available for our obd2 ECU code, it is the same as the UK code. I'm about to order the "stage 2 obd2" chip. It is still 300 bucks but 800 for an n/a chip is just stupid, that's cams and exhaust money.

All early ecu's half of 95's included will need to be soldered or socket-ed. Auto leccies can do it. Just 28 pins. Sockets are like 5 cents each.

For the cost of giac i will have a running stamdalone ecu that will make more power and can allow alot of functions

So considering i have OBD1 and haven't touched the ECU or anything like that yet... What do you suggest i do? Can anyone provide some links for info on everything i need to do to run a chip?
                Thanks

Did you manage to get it on a dyno?
