Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Things that go bump

Occasionally when I go over a speed bump the front will make a clank sort of like the clank of a jack hammer. I don't think this is normal and it sounds like whatever is supposed to cushion the bump or something is missing.

Not too sure what it is.

Lower control arm bushes and strut top bushes.

Also, don't rule out swaybar bushes and end links.

hmm, when I had a service they did look around the control arm area, they didn't find anything apparently. (but I didn't mention anything to them either)

I'd suggest checking these too. Make sure everything is tight

Can I find it in the Bentley Manual?
Or are there any good links so that I can read up?

What's this supposed to be and should I be worried? (looks to be just a sleeve on it but still want to be sure)

Torn CV joint boot......get it replaced as soon as possible or CV joint will be next on your shopping list.

Is this something that would have been seen during a major service? because they didn't mention it to me...

By the way, is this outer or inner? (sorry if noob)

Also, where can I get this done ASAP?

Literally doing this myself within the next few weeks. I had a pre roadworthy inspection and my mechanic said its a RWC requirement :/.

Yep they should have spotted that, looks like drivers side inner to me, and no idea where abouts to get it done where you are but goes without saying not at the place that serviced it

I have been in contact with a place close to work, said they'd do it for $188 (all up). I think that sounds reasonable?

That sounds very fair! I'm doing it myself and it costing me $90! So $100 labour to save yourself a few hours is good!
