  • Chip and Cams advice?

Hey guys looking at getting a chip and perhaps cams as well for the vr6. what are the best and most reliable brands in your opinion?would also appreciate help on who in sydney could do this for my vr6?

Obviously giac is on my mind but ive also heard of pretty respectable options such as powerchip and chiptorque.

Steve looks like you've just been here done this whats your opinion lol?

    thanks all in advance!

US chips wont work in our ECUs.
certainly lots of cheap cams available in the US though. Have a chat to Seb maybe. Chasing power in a VR6 is expensive business. Just ask Steve!

Another option may also be MTM. They are quite reputable and I'm sure they do stuff for the VR6 also. Give Milan from TCCA a call also whilst your doing the rounds...

Have spoken to MJM about this via email, they will include the proper spec chip in the package.

From what i gather i don't think you'll see a huge rise in power, just a different power curve. Maybe a bit fatter mid range and fatter top end, feel free to chime in with your experiences here Steve.

MJM is not to be confused with MTM.

While FI will ultimately give you far more power, theres something to be said for a nicely tuned NA donk <3

Ding ding ding, buy that man a cigar!

Unfortunately, unless you are prepared to spend the money on forced induction, there isn't a lot of (cheap) gains to be made on the VR6.

While Shrink Manifold + cams + chip will do good, consider your HP vs $$ ratio.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

Sorry guys wasn't online lst night

As for cams and chip well I have 264 degree cams at the moment with mild porting.

With cams they will not work as sufficient enough! With the correct mapping codes it will be work well with the car! My GIAC chip is custom program and has cams, porting and extractors programmed to it if I want to go down that way.

You will notice that with the cam and chip combo you will do nicely through mid to end.

With the GIAC chip I can take it to 7300rpm by passing the red line but its not recommended to do that all the time!

Mate I won't have my car until the Nats but if you want it will be at Sebs workshop in a few weeks getting some final touchs including the schrick put on it! Come past and have a look but in saying that TT cams are awesome stuff!

Also I may be talking up GIAC but in the VR6 world there really isn't much chipping options I looked at Oettinger, Powerchips and GIAC. I went for GIAC as they were the best option and also if I had any problems aftermarket support is imperritive!
I'm soo euro even my missus is shaved...
