Does anything happen when you try to start it?

changed the ecu to a manual one? Imagine trying to start the car not in Park mode on an auto. Won't work. If ecu isn't receiving that then it wouldn't start I'd suspect. Obviously also the manual starter is different to the auto one. The more information you can give us on what you've done and what it's doing the more likely someone can help you

It does work, I do it all the time after having parked in neutral.

Ok. Park or neutral. Bet it doesn't work in Drive or Reverse. I was implying about the transmission selector letting the ecu know it can start the car.

There's an inhibitor relay you need to bypass.

Hay when you go to crack does nothing no clicking sound from the starter motor. Im running the manual starter motor. I've got a donor car which I have taken all the parts off. I've plugged the ecu off the manual and same thing happens also comes up with a error code on Ross tech that engine start is blocked by the imboliser. I've also disconted the auto ecu dash doesn't display it being in park.

Where is the inhibitor relay located and which wires get by passed

                  Read this: VWVortex.com - 020 Manual Swap FAQ/DIY

If you still have the auto wiring in there, you may have to jumper the 6-pin plug that used to sit below the battery on the transmission to make the car think it is permanently in neutral.
