  • Transmission Problems

    Hi guys

I'm a new member from Sydney, but have been coming to this site for the past few months. I got a MK3 golf GL 2.0L Auto, and started having a few problems with the gear changes, like il be at a red light, it goes green i start accelerating and there's a massive lag in response almost 10sec, or il be driven and it drops down a gear and starts to over rev. So I took it to a mechanic to get serviced cos i thought it might solve the problem, but he told me that the transmission is gone and I need a new one, and its going to cost a fair bit, I rang a few places and the transmission I need is a CLK type which is apparently expensive well for me anyways.

So I was just wondering if its worth fixing or if thers another solution.

    thanks.

Thats the way to go mate, these tranny do have issues and especially if they have missed servicing- valve body and printed circuits bad and at the end of the day will cost you more, you will also stress out the engine and gearbox mounts with banging and poor changes, go the tranny from loon and replenish the oil with fresh stuff and a new filter screen.

Ohk cool I will give you a call on Tuesday afternoon just to make sure its the right transmission for my car. CLK is the type of transmission I was told by the mechanic, but yeh just to make sure, he was telling me some other things like short stick housing, solenoids, but im not sure what they are to tell you the truth im guessing I need those or they come with the transmission.

Rip it out and replace it with a real mans tranny... wait... anyway...

Go the manual conversion instead, it will allow you to extract more fun from that 2.0L lump. Mind you if you drive in traffic there is something to be said for auto, not alot, but something.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

is it a straightfoward thing to convert from auto to manual?
obviously you'll need the trans, pedal box, master and slave cyl

yeh i wouldn't mind a manual conversion, but im guessing it will set me back a fair bit, i dont have deep pockets. and has any1 done it.
