Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Thanks to cliftronix for advice about the leads. They are much better than the mk3 leads in terms of removing and installing.

      • Deciphered my boot sticker.
        One code missing as the sticker was damaged in that spot.

        X8C = National sales program Australia
        B0R = Component parts set, complying with vehicle type for Australia, various parts
        C2L = Alloy wheels 6.5J x 16
        G0E = 4-speed automatic transmission
        H1V = Tires 225/45 R17
        J1L = Battery 280 A (60 Ah)
        M39 = 6-cyl. gasoline engine 2.8 L/128 kW VR6 w/ MPI, MVEG 2, controlled cat, w/o EGR base engine is T6N
        Q1X = Sports front seats with integrated storage trays
        1AE = Electronic differential lock (EDL/ABS)
        1G9 = Space-saving spare wheel for temporary use, radial tire (5-hole)
        2PH = Leather steering wheel
        1NL = Covers for alloy wheels
        3AE = Right exterior mirror: flat, electrically adjustable and heated
        T6N = 6-cylinder gasoline engine 2.8 L unit 021.A
        0BB = Rear stabilizer
        3S0 = Without roof rails/roof load rack
        3U1 = Foldable trunk cover
        5J1 = Rear spoiler
        0G2 = Selector lever
        8GL = Alternator 120 A
        8L3 = Roof antenna
        1H0 = Without proportioning valve
        1KK = Disc brakes, rear
        1LN = Disc brakes, front
        3YH = Door pockets, front
        1BA = Standard suspension/shock absorption

        So apparently I have heated side mirrors? Would that just be activated when activating the rear demister? No separate switch?

        Also wondering why it says R17 tyres fitted to 16" wheels...and something about covers for the alloy wheels?

        Anyway, was interesting to see.
        Now back to Altium.

          • I think it's normal, definitely doesn't sound like the timing chain has gone yet. It may be starting to ever so slightly go though but the sound sounds like it's coming from the opposite side.
            Might also mention this was happening before new ignition leads too, so that didn't introduce the problem.

                • Complete fog light kit arrived. Scored myself one from a GTI.
                  Having trouble figuring out what the big blue plugs are for? They don't match the fogs.

                      Photo? Might be for adjustable headlight motors.

                      • In this photo it's the plugs with the blue shielding on the cables next to the connector. They are bigger than all the other connectors.
                        *Ignore that it has the US headlight plugs. Other than that it's the same loom as I have.

                          • New loom installed as well as well as the rest of the accompanying parts. Was interrupted by sudden rain half-way through.
                            Was tight on space so could only stand so far back.
                            Happy with the result. Also have clear indicators on the front that were part of the setup.
                            Need some new rear wheel bearings soon.
                            Edit; Don't need new wheel bearing I reckon, have a screw logded into my tyre.
                            Second time this year

                            • so...new car is on order.
                              Wondering what to do with this, probably sell it but I know not many people are interested in a VR6 that is auto. Would probably be good for a conversion.
                              (car is at least one year away so have to wait a while for it to arrive)
