The keys didn't really help me in the end. I managed to man handle it out with my multi tool.
This is what the wiring all looks like:
Front Right Speaker
Front Left Speaker
Wiring for head unit
Another wiring shot
I don't any experience with this stuff so to me it all looks fine except a few of the connections are a bit loose. I adjusted them. Does anyone think I should remove the tape and have a better look at the wiring and then replace it? That seems like the logical thing to do seeing that the tape is pretty much stuffed. Wanted a second opinion before I do anything though. When I tried to put the head unit back in I figured that the connectors needed to be put into the recess below the housing. I've done this but the head unit still pokes out about 6mm :/ Why would this be?
I'm going to test the system on my way to the movies so I'll post up the result later this arvo. I'm have a feeling that it will still be the same and that it might be time to replace the speakers. I'm not giving up yet though!
So the front left speaker drops in and out, and a lot of the more subtle sounds and higher tone in the music are either very quiet or non- existent. Anyone have any idea what it could be?
Okay this morning I got the left tweeter out (couldn't work out how to the the cover of the right tweeter). The wiring all looked good. So then I had a fiddle with play back and worked out that the issue of the right hand speakers not working is the AUX cable. Its happened with others so it must be the angle that the cable hangs from the head unit. I fiddled some more with my Ipod cable and changed the setting so that I can now select the song on my Ipod and not the clunky head unit display . Once I had done this I changed some the of the equaliser settings. After much thought I have decided that the tweeters do not produce any sound at all, left or right. They will need to be replaced is that right?
You can pull off the black caps and plastics and just unbolt that bar if ya need!
Its out now. So I still have the bit that it slots into and I'll just get some high tensile bolts from work (Mitre 10 ) if I need to put it back in.
I'm getting quite frustrated at the moment due to the rarity of Thule 404s. I really really really want a set on my car but they seem so hard to get your hands on. I've read through a lot of build threads and it seems you just have to trawl Gumtree, Ebay and here to find some when they come up. I read somewhere to look out for people selling Mk3s with them on it and just offer to buy then off the car.
Who here has bought a pair and how long did it take/ how did you eventually get them.
