  • What do you guys think of these brake mods?

    Howdy Guys,
    I'm thinking of upgrading the front and rear brakes on the VR to;

    Zimmerman cross drilled rotors
    Braided stainless lines
    EBC Green Stuff pads

Do you think I will notice a large improvement in stopping power with this setup or is it only likely to be a minor improvement? My brakes at the moment don't seem to have much "grab", which is strange coz it has brand new rotors and ATE pads on the front (5000km old) and the pedal seems a bit soft to me

    Cheers
    Simon

I would just go slotted, not cross drilled as they increase wear on brake pads and the benefits are not seen on a normal road car. As steve how his car brakes i believe he has ebc red stuff, braided lines and slotted rotors.

A soft pedal can often be attributed to bad/not so great brake fluid, operating worse and worse as temperature climbs up. It might help to use DOT 5 brake fluid as they have a higher "tolerance" to heat (what's the correct term here?). Combined with braided lines, I reckon you'll find that pedal feel will improve by a great deal.

ditto wat Ray said new fluid, braided lines and yes even new pads would make a marked improvement! the slotted rotors will be moreso for looks on a street car so if u wanna get'em, get'em but it prob wont improve your pedal feel . . .

Ahhh brakes, one of the last mods most people to, myself included

My system could handle some new lines and fluid. I also wouldn't mind getting some bigger rotors for the rear, although just about everything I read says just don't bother since the fronts do all the work anyway.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

At the moment I am running 288mm slotted rotors from 280mm slotted with new lines and calipers. I have slotted brakes front and rear!

I also have ebc green stuff at the rear and ebc red stuff at the front. I am quite happy with my braking capabilities I know of a few people that have gone the 312mm brake upgrade if you can find yourself a S3 scrapping go for it, however you will need 17s as they won't fit the brakes, new calipers, brake lines and carriers!

I went for the 288mm cause I wanted to keep to 16s.

312mm disks should fit under 16's

You can fit MK4 R32 disks under 17's and I think they are over 330mm

Thanks for the info guys, I already got 17's but i didn't really want to go to the expense of bigger brakes. Think I'll give the braided lines and new fluid a go first, see how that shapes up.

My setup is stock but I am looking to a setup very similar to steve's, but with motul RBF600 fluid. It has a much higher boiling point, isnt too pricey and should be able to withstand the race track beating I intend to give it in the not too distant future

Most people in the States do it

Maybe it was the porsche wheels, that is why they would not fit

yeah depends on the design. Most 16s will hit the caliper without a spacer

Anyone know where I can get braided lines somewhere in Australia?
