  • On fire !!

Very depressing day, few days ago my car suddenly cought on fire in the engine bay.

It may have been a short circuit in the MAF sensor, well that part was all burnt off.

Now it's in the NRMA compound waiting for inspection, I already miss it so much.

On the positive side it only looks like minor damage. More importantly I would like pin point the culprit.

I just need reassurance guys, tell me it's only minor damage.

The HIds, I relocated behind the side guard, it was safe and unharmed.

I will be needing your help Matt, once the NRMA has my car inspected I will give you a call.

Yeah, lucky I am fully insured.

Plainly, it was the recently installed neuspeed strut bar that caused the fire.

btw, I assume all the yellow crap in the bay is extinguisher powder??

Luck there was a petrol station where I pulled ova. They actually want to charge me for usinging a a few squirts !!! Moral of the story, better to be save than sorry, while I was really LUCKY. SO Don't consider just get a fire extinguisher, just DO it . I would never have thought it would happen to me too !!

The MAF did have less insulated wires, but not to point where it is exposing copper. You serious, they need to know about air filter?

Anti Fire bottle... yeah, I keep thinking about one of those too. Might have to get round to actually getting one of those

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

I watched a guy lose his Kombi to a engine fire the one time the car I was in did not have an extinguisher. I feel they should be compulsory.

Crap luck on the wiring fire. Sometimes a fire in the engine bay can be a write-off (ie. Stat write-off).

                          All the best.

A good buddy of mine lost her Kombi to engine fire many years ago too. It was a burnt out shell in less than 5 mins

I too think they should be compulsory. Some people laugh at me for for mine, but if your in a 1200kg box of steel that can go at 100kph+ with a 55L tank of extremely flammable liquid mounted underneath... dont YOU think its a good idea to get a 1kg anti-fire bottle?!?!
