  • New Parts for the VR6

Seems one of the CV boots are torn, since it can't be replaced for a couple of weeks anyway since I will be out of state I'm looking at ordering some new ones from German Auto Parts:

As these things go... while your there you may as well get a few bits and pieces.

Bushing kit, front control arm, polyurethane Complete kit for both front control arms. Stiffer than rubber bushings, sharpens steering response but transmits more road surface vibrations. Does not require spacer sleeves. 27.56
Spark plug, NGK BKR5EKU 2-electrode copper plug. Currently used by VW in VR6 engines. 5.79
Polyurethane bushing kit, rear upper shock mount Set of 4 bushings, two large and two small. Firmer than original rubber bushings. One kit required per car. 20.95
Ignition wire set, high performance Includes 6 plug wires plus coil wire. Coil wire not required for models w/o distributor. Features original German Bremi connectors with correct resistance values and a 19 strand copper wire with dual layer silicone insulation. Limited lifetime warranty. 93.71
Ignition wire removal tool Ignition wire removal tool - Removes ignition wire from spark plug without pulling on cable. Professional quality metal tool designed to last, does not break like plastic versions. This tool is essential to remove ignition wires without damaging them. 43.00
Oil filter kit Original equipment. Includes oil filter element and seal ring. Filter element has plastic ends. 10.92
Sealing washer, 14x20mm, copper Seal ring for oil drain plug. Should be replaced at each oil change. 0.11
Expansion tank With built-in level sensor 43.58
Cap, expansion tank Includes seal 7.50
C.V. Boot kit. Includes new boot, circlips, grease, clamps, and axle nut. Outer. 17.09
CV Boot kit, for 100mm (3.93 inch) diameter joint Inner. Left side. 16.54
CV Boot kit, for 100mm (3.93 inch) diameter joint Inner. Right side. 17.64

Total US$372.49 + Shipping (which should be around US$75)

Total AU$421.73 + shipping or assuming shipping is right it's about AU$506.65 landed.

Couple of questions for the more learned mechanics amoungst us.

Although they are the only CV boots listed, are they the right ones?

When it comes to the suspension bushings, I have these coilovers coming:

    and this dome bearing kit:

so do I actually need all the bushing I have listed?

Lastly, I'm planning on putting the order through in the next 24 hours or so, so if anyone wants in on some parts to share shipping costs, be quick!

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

You know where you put in your coolant into that clear bottle. It's going to be replaced very soon for two very good reasons:

      1. It's from a 2.slow
      2. It's black

Ingnore the yellow bit, but see the tank:

As for bumpiness... it's getting lower with the coilovers anyway... how much bumpier can those bushings make it??? Anyone with experience?

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

One of the local places is going to make me up one, that and the place I'm ordering from didn't have them otherwise I probably would have

Shipped on the 4th, considering I put the order in at ~2pm Sydney time that makes it about 12am their time. So they have got to work, picked, packed and dispatched same day. Now thats good service, especially for an overseas order.

The best thing... UPS have listed the due date:
                      Delivery Date: January 10, 2008

                      NICE!

Mark Davidson from German Auto Parts has been fantastic, replying to a number of emails very quickly.
The only downside, the last email said "invoice attached" and he forgot to attach it, but these things happen

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.
