  • Radiator Hose

Seem I have a VERY small leak here at the moment:

It needs to be fixed before it gets worse so I rang my "friends" at McGrath and they tell me that little joint... see the one with all the clips around it... yeah that one, well it only comes as a whole part like this one:

    $280...

    Ahh, no.

Anyone have either a spare one of those joints or an alternative part that they know ill fit?

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

HAHA that's insane! Try Tooley Imports @ 94766363. They're located at Waitara (Hornsby) though but I'm sure it'll end up cheaper. Matt can get stuff there at trade prices there too, so you could possibly save a few bucks if you go through him.

    Present: Mk3 Golf variant.

That might be the go, although anyone know of a local supplier for something like this rather than importing it?

In the meantime I found this:

Clean and lightly sand (then reclean):

            Knead:

            Apply:

I got this one since it's good to over 200C, which is handy, all the usually araldites I would use are only good to about 80c. Also it's good with pressure.
Hopefully this will buy me a few extra days/weeks till I can get my hands on a decent replacement part.

                Hmnn very ingenious, good work.

Hahaha I love your coolant bottle! I remember me and BBoy looking at it saying how cool it was, completely disregarding the fact that you can't see through it

Yep, it's going to be replaced very soon for two very good reasons:

                  1. It's from a 2.slow
                  2. It's black

The goo has hardened up nicely and I took it for a burl tonight and it seems to be holding on (not that it was leaking before). Should hold till I can find a replacement.

WTF is the go with only selling a complete hose? while I have been hunting round lots of places seem to have the same thing. Considering it's a commonly broken part you would think more people would have the replacement. Might try Wolfsburg tomorrow. Mind you if it's much more than $60 I'll be importing an alloy one.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

Tooleys are shut for another week. Grr

I`d try a plumbers / gas fitters supplier and find something similar.

I had to make up one of these to get the overflow line into the right spot in the engine bay.

What you need is a temperature sender adaptor to go into a radiator hose. They're a very common thing for gauge obsessed ricers to bolt in. Autobarn or any auto accessory shop stocks them.

                        Here's an ebay example http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Water-temp-ga...QQcmdZViewItem

They come in different diameters to suit different hoses. They're supposed to be used to put a temp sender into but you can also just scew in brass hose fittings. With a bit of luck your auto shop will also have the right fittings, otherwise you can go to Pirtek or the Hose Doctor etc and get the fittings from them.

I'll try and find a pic of the one in my car.

Can anyone tell me what size the main rad hose is?

The local radiator place will make a brass one up for about $25-30 if I let them know what size I want it.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.
