I could have a Mk5 and tart it up but still like the old skool yet so why bother, i fix enough broken ones as a day job .

love the look of the stock bbs's, whats the tyre profile on the vr in the spotlight pic?? they look bigger then usual but I dig it..... believe it or not but i've found some bbs wheels exactly the same as the vr except 4x100, crazy huh?? never seen them before....?

VR flares help heaps in pulling off the early 90s factory super saloon look. Gives that sort of group B flavour. The silver Mk3 rocking the Vento front pulls it off really well.

On another note, going to a tyre shop tomorrow to try on some meatier rubber ..... we'll see what I can come up with.... I have some unheard of sizes going around in my head so it'll be interesting Rebelling against the stance movement! sorta...haha

alex, if you want your car to be 'legal' etc, why on earth would you put on 9" wide wheels.

Get something 'normal size' with a 'normal tyre' and have the suspension height just so, and the offsets good enough to fill the arches with out scrubbing. As Tim's car shows its possible.

But if you want to go wide, why worry about being legal...

Ease up turbo.....I said "at legal or near legal height", legaility isn't an issue.. by saying 100mm I was merely saying just not impractical........

Well you don't have to be slammed to be eye catching. I think I really clean tidy mk 3 with a cup kit and nice wheels will always catch my eye.

as for practicality. My car is (was) well under 100mm and I still classed it as practical. Made it all the way to canberra without a hassle. Can still get over speed bump, in and out of driveways etc. But I'm pretty sure alot of people would still class my car as impractical. what ever floats ya boat i guess

that's a more constructive reply :p I was looking for opinions on what combo's work so if you have any examples of what your talking about that'd help this thread a heap

Well I can say for me, being well under 100mm to get the loved "stance" is a love hate relationship. Coilovers get harder the lower you screw them, I find myself avoiding shopping centres and if I can't then I have to slide my sils over 99% of speed bumps and I have to re attach my front lip every time I exit my garage or hit any other obnoxious slopes....

this wasn't however a thread on how tolerant we are towards owning a slammed car, it's a thread about discussing what combo works without the slammage. If you have some pics of some examples that'd be swell

I'm going to have to stop you on that one. Not my car mate. My car rides great slammed to the deck. You get what you pay for. I also don't find I don't have avoid driving any where. Sure I scrape sometimes, but that's part of running low. (Yea, the cabby's sills are lower than mine though)

IMO, to get a car to sit nice is all about wheel gap. Get low to no wheel gap with a wheel that fills the arches and you'll be fine.

Pretty sure Alex's car is onb pretty good coilovers though. I didn't think it rode that bad when I was in it, guess we didn't tackle any speed bumps or awful roads though.

Getting rid of wheel gap though is certainly the way to make these (and most cars i guess) look good for sure. A sporty looking wheel and tyre combo is the way to go if you don't want to be silly low.
