  • Just throwing this out there.........

Can our mk3's look "bangin', dope, fresh, wicked, ****yeh, hella awesome..." at legal or near legal height?? starting to wonder....

Few cars can really pull it off, i.e. evo's, wrx's, muscle cars....

getting a lil tired of feeling like ****s gonna break off when I encounter crappy roads..... let alone "mission speed bump".......

post up some examples of well done cars at a non-slammed height

I have no photos but I'm thinking 16-17" OEM+ looking wheels without tiny tyres and car lowered to 100mm, would probably be the way to go to get rid of a bit of that wheel gap. After looking at these cars sitting on the ground, they look funny at normal height haha.

Interested to see what people post up too though.

You must be growing up Alex hahaha.

If you still have those bbs bugattis you could probably pull them off without being slammed

For some reason in my eyes, these cars just look better the lower they are haha. I've got no hope really..

A couple random mk3's on 17s that aren't low low I found on the 'tex quickly. With 17's you can sit higher than with 16's and it looks okay, but then again the lower you go the better they look ofcourse, so the temptation would be there to just lower it until its impractical again haha

Maybe you should do a dodgy test fit somehow and see if you like them

There is another solution to wanting to drive without breaking things, but still looking good when you park.... Put the thing on bags. haha

this was my old car (now current car again! )

i didnt think it looked too bad on 17's. it's got different wheels on atm, but im putting the old ones back so itll look like this again.

had enough issues with the po-po in my foz to want to fly totally under the radar.

plus underground city parking bars are hungry for front lips.

            I'm selling my VR6

if those were actually wider wheels it'd look ok hayden.

alex, I think you can. I'm around a 100mm atm (at my sills not including front lip) and with a 205/45/16 it does look nice in terms of tyre to arch gap. then you just have to get a nice wheel say 16x7.5 and with like a +30 offset, and it'll look great. Tim's car is an example of this, (when it's clean) it really does look great.

Having said that, If I could legally engineer a notch, I'd be using it!

So long as the wheel gap is smaller than the tyre profile a car can look awesome.
Totally slamming a car does nothing for it unless the wheel fitment is bonkers. Then it starts looking cool.

Tim, Jarred and myself would all have our sills at 100mm here. Front lips are all a bit lower but its looks fresh.

Dont get me wrong I loved slammed cars but I like some decent tyre and height. Id like mine to sit bang on 100mm with some 16x7.5 et25 and id be super happy.

Yep with the Jetta front lip my car (the green one) is at legal ride height. The grass makes it look lower at the front than it really was with the Euro lip though

Here's me living the high life.

In short... no being high can't easily be pulled off, I mean how much better would those cars look a metre or two lower? But it's way more practical and I scrubbed on enough things anyway. But on the same token I think too low looks too backyard teenager spring cut style and a little height can make a car look chunkier and more agile. Honda Alex had his EG jacked up on those regas and with stacks of mugen touches that gave the car a real period correct factory improved look that turned out surprisingly well. I think it's 100% wheels/tyres/choice of trimmings.

In summary, I clearly have NFI but I've finished exams and can spend my days mulling over this sort of first world problem.

I think the style of wheel makes a difference to.
Tyre size and fitment also play a big part.
Golfmans VR6 is looking good on 17s atm, almost looks like it could have come out of the factory like that. not sure if he is above or below 100mm

in the photo above, if your vento fron was down a touch to even the tyre gap it would be awesome (not sure if thats a old photo?)

My car was at around 110mm high and I quite liked it. I've recently jacked it up even higher, hoping to improve the ride quality a bit. Unfortunately it didn't really help... anyway, I'm a big fan of legal ride heights. For practicalities sake as much as aesthetics.

I haven't got any recent pics of my car, so this'll have to do to for now. Am hoping to get some new shots in the near future.
