Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Boom went the VR6

A sad day for me and my baby as she was towed today.

So my VR6s radiator turned on one day.. thought nothing of it. Day by day the radiator stayed on longer and longer after i turned her off. Temperature started rising from the normal 90 degrees. My windshield would always go foggy. I knew i had a cooling problem however i didn't know it would be so sudden. After Reading up on VR6s overheating i figured id get it checked out, obviously i didn't do it soon enough as the following day one of the hoses had blown, the usual steam was coming out and everything seemed to fry.

The moral of the story is that DONT WAIT... a simple tightening of a hose or a replacement can save you big bucks.

Thankfully the boys at Golf City VIC had it fixed within 4 hours of getting it, they also found another problem, the electronic water pump had failed causing the preassure to build up = BOOM.

    Pretty normal problems.

The windscreen fogging up may suggest that your heater core is leaking.

I think it was because there was a pool of coolant chilling on top of the transmission as well.

Initially i wanted to take it to AudVolk in clayton, they had a one month wait and wasn't prepared to wait that long with a blown hose. Golf City gave me the option to use new or used parts, went with new and they had it fixed with no problems.
