  • gearbox change over

Just wondering if anyone has had experience or has changed the mk3 Vr6 gearbox to a 02M mk4 6 speed manual?

or if there is any other 6spd that will fit in a mk3 vr6??

    Cheers

Is the gearbox you are thinking of from a 4 cylinder car? If it is, then no, it wont fit as is.

would the r32 gearbox not fit? if it were the manual.

I'm pretty sure someone has done it on the vortex forum but I'm not sure if it was the gearbox from the jetta or the r32

not sure if it would work because the O2M is a 4WD gearbox.

It's the 5 speed 02J from the GTIs. I believe mk3pete has done the conversion, along with many others on the Vortex. Not an overly complicated conversion from what I've read, you just need the correct parts to make the changeover. Search vwvortex.com for DIY threads.

I'm pretty sure sneakypete just has the tower/shifter/cable conversion. I do believe he's still running an O2A box.

R32 o2m will bolt up. Just needs a trans mount done, think there is now a kit made for it.

There is one for sale now, Dragon green one that has the V5 Bora box in it that has shorter ratios.

None of this makes sense so will clear it up

02M gearbox is the larger sized manual gearbox found on V6 Bora, R32, TT with 165kw engine etc
The V5 Bora does not have an 02m gearbox, its still the O2J

To do the conversion you will need the following:
                02m gearbox
Casing plate to remove transfer case
subframe mount cut and re-welded as it gets in the way of the driveshafts
custom driveshafts as the gearbox couplings are different and ends are different not to mention lengths
                Bracket for gearbox mount
hydraulic lines for clutch slave cylinder
complete linkage assembly off 02m gearbox
Im sure I missed some bits...

Question is why do you need it?
My own car will have over 500HP so its bordering on the safe limits for the 02a
If you want the extra gear look into a gearset kit, much cheaper

                  yeah thanks thats sweet,

I was just looking into a 6th gear for the future if i were to do anything with the engine, plus all i'm doing at the moment is highway driving 4 days a week so it annoys me there is no 6th gear to cruise in, for now the gearset looks the best option...
