Where can I get a strut brace for a MK3?

Well been meaning to put up a pic of mine as a test fit, and here it is:



Compare this to a USDM vr6, where the brake fuild bottle is on the right between the coolant and engine:

It seems we have a problem.

I didnt, the installer said he had to. Its corking though, not an actual weld. You can press the stuff in with a finger nail.

It looks a bit ugly atm, but i'm hoping it can be put back on and painted again.

guys, theres no issue with removing some corking from the strut tower to fit the bar, though you should paint over the area once its removed.

the brake fluid resoviour issue is not really an issue at all - the bar touches the lid, only just. anyone with an ounce of persistence would work around this hassle any day, and to be honest, a little funnel will cure any problems topping it up.

fitting the bar yourself is easy as pie, just follow the excellent instructions supplied. i did mine in a matter of 15minutes. you only need a pilot drill and a 3/8th bit, a shifter and an 11mm socket and torque wrench, and a centrepunch, and hammer.

infact, the torque wrench is only necessary for inexperienced mechanics - they are low torque bolts and its only used so you dont overtighten the bolts and wreck the supplied nutserts.

The issue here is that I'm not an experienced mechanic, and I want to know if using force to push the brake fluid pot over is going to weaken the system or its mounts. I have zero interest in installing this bar if my brakes are going to **** themselves in 3 months time. Especially since my green german violence is track bound next year.

I really don't care how easy it is to install, but when you have one of Perth's most highly regarded suspension workshops not wanting to do the job because of this, you have to start asking questions.

i see your dilemma... I would suggest waiting till someone else posts pics of their engine bay who has done it. To the guys who have got theirs in already - don't be lazy and take some pics (the more the better) so matty can reassure himself and the nice people at his suspension shop.

I'm keen to see how it goes once you get them in MattyT - it puts a massive grin even thinking about it. i'd almost consider coming all the way over there to see the thing fly around those bends

Well.. this the the competent work of Mr White (golf loon). Drilled and bolted on in ~15 mins.

well better late then never....

i asked Neuspeed the question about the bar fouling just a little.

the response was "we have heard this has happened on non-american cars"

needless to say, not overly thrilled with the response, but it is what it is and there's no way to sugar coat it! lol

SO, here's the deal; if you have the bar, and you're not happy with trying to fit it around the brake fluid res, let me know and we'll discuss a solution.

That's about the best I can do!
