Hi all, just joined the forum today. Should have joined a year ago but am slack. I just bought a shiny black 96 VR6 to replace my 87 mk2 GTI (which I still need to offload).
I know that windows have been covered in the forums a million times but does anyone have any instructions for a non-mechanical monkey like me to remove my door lining so I can have a peek at why the power window is stuck half-way and won't budge (someone has had a go at it at some stage and split the lining so it might be a bit tricky). The regulator was replaced a year ago according to the receipts I received when I bought the car.
    Thanks
    Steve

Welcome dude! Good to see another mk3er on here

For the door trims start by popping off the plastic trim where the switch lies on. Once thats peeled off (unclip the connector) there are two philips screws that hold the door trim in place. Unscrew the plastic door lock off and u can proceed to yank the trim away from the door. I do the "grab handle and yank hard" trick but prob best to start at the bottom and pry it off slowly.

Good luck with it, let us know if u run into any problems!

        Hey thanks Peedman,
I'll give it a go and see what happens. I'm thinking that I'm gonna be up for a new regulator but I can hope that it's something simple.
        Thanks again

G'day Ramone, welcome to the forums Another VR6 owner living in the western suburbs!

          Check this site out: http://www.ohiovw.com/tools/regulator/

That's the instructions for the rear windows. Fronts are the same, though they look slightly different (and more fiddly).

Put some pics up of your cars soon

            Welcome ramone!

I did a DIY on installing rear speakers that might help you removing the door panels.

Here's mine (any change to post another pic):

I'm hoping to get to Wakefield to have a bit of a track day one day in the near(ish) future and another VR6 is more than welcome. Also planning on getting down the drags one of these days too Keep an eye out if your interested.

                    Welcome again, enjoy your stay.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

Thanks for all your help folks. After taking the door trim off, was able to gently persuade the window to go up and down gingerly.....but at least its now all the way up (was stuck half way for the last few weeks). Dunno yet whether I'll be game to try opening it again for a while but at least I can finally wash it!! Nothing worse than a filthy vdub.
