  • Looking for a MK3 VR6

    Hey there!

I don't have ten posts yet so I can't put this in the For Sale section, my apologies in advance!

I'm currently looking for a MK3 VR6, any colour, I just need a new car.
I'm in SA but am willing to look at options interstate, as long as it is definitely a good buy.

I've had a quick look in the For Sale section but couldn't really find anything that popped out.
If anyone knows of any that are currently for sale, could they comment on here?

Basically after one that is bone stock. Am very partial to white cars however, having owned a white 1303 Beetle for a while.

    Cheers,
    Seb!

If I was in the market for a VR6 I would definitely want to check this one out:

As far as I know, the owner is a member on this forum as well.
    - Mk2 Golf GTI 16v, 2-door, Tornado Rot, BBS RS, 1988 - SOLD
    - E30 325i Coupe, Manual, Alpinweiss
    - E30 325i Touring, Manual, Diamantschwarz x 2
    - On the lookout for another E30 325i Coupe, Manual (red would be nice)...

If I had that amount of cash handy I'd jump at it.

I'm probably looking at spending no more than 6k.
Hopefully I can still get a decent car for that much...
Not fussed with kilometres, but nothing crazy.
      Probably looking around 150,000 - 180,000kms maximum.

They are getting harder to find, especially when you're looking for low KM's (they are 15+ years old now!).

There are currently 8 listed on Carsales, although most are in NSW with 1 in VIC.

And of course there is mine listed here which is up for sale again: http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/foru...vr6-57723.html

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

Dude, have I got the car for you. I'm going to be selling my wife's 1996 white VR6. 140,000 km and just had a major service done. We're the second owner (since 50,000km) and have a full service history. Just put on a set of new tyres, replaced the ignition leads and drive belt as well as the rear wiper arm. HVAC works perfectly, still blows hot and cold when it needs to. Never had a problem with the window regs.

What's the catch? The body needs some minor work. There's a couple of hailstone dents in the bonnet and the front fenders have had a bump, but nothing that's actually marked the paint. The paint is in outstanding condition for a car of it's age. Also, the ABS light is on more often than it's off.

Our German Princess is 100% stock standard with the exception of a GIAC chip and an aftermarket headunit. Oh, and brand-new aero wipers.

I'm going to try and get some photos up this weekend if you're interested.

            Hey Kai_h!

Just quickly, how much are you chasing? Can you upload some photos to this thread if possible, would love to see what condition it is in other than just your description.
Quite possible that if the price is right and no one else snatches it up, we can organise something.

Otherwise, I've been looking at a MK3 CL, 1.8l manual. What are the key differences between a CL and GL?
This one is in Adelaide and they're asking $3,500. 180,000+ kilometres!

            Damn your VR6 is amazing!
I'd pick it up in a heartbeat if I had the cash. If you still have it mid-January next year I might PM you about it.

Is there such thing as a two door MK3?
I'm struggling to learn all this new stuff, I've been so into old Beetle's that it feels weird branching into Golf's.

But I digress, I'm excited to get my hands on a new car!

Yes. The 2 dr is only a 4 banger, but there are a few VR6 conversions floating around. There is even a 2dr cab Mk3.5 which is the front of a Mk4 with the back of a Mk3 and of course no roof Again 4 pot only unless it's been converted.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

I'm kinda in the mood to just get a car at the moment, so it doesn't necessarily have to be a VR6 anymore.

                Criteria is as follows.
                - 2.0l Manual.
                - Golf MK3 or MK4. (Prefer MK3).
                - Nothing above $6,000.
                - Decent amount of kilometres, nothing massive.
                - 2 door. (4 door if the right price).

                However, another couple of questions.
What is deemed a massive amount of kilometres in a Golf?
When do most Golf's die and need a heap of money spent on them?
I'm after something reliable, not a toy car, not yet anyway.
Won't be used as a family car either, will basically be a daily driver to and from work which is about a five minute drive.

Weekends will be spent hooning in Zelda, my Beetle.
                Once she is converted however.

If it wasn't raining today, I'd get some pics done now. As for price, I'm aiming at $7-8k for it - but of course this is negotiable.

If she's in decent condition and we can settle on the right price, and she's still for sale when I get back from Europe, then we'll talk.

Would love to see some photos in the mean time though!

Finding it bloody hard to find a two door.
Seems there aren't any in South Australia for sale at all.

Yeah I think 2 doors may be even rarer then vr6's. A ton cooler then there 4 door brothers though. Hah. Drop a vr6 in and it would be all kinds of win.

Differences between the 1.8 and 2.0 is the 2.0 came in the GL's which were a higher spec car. Not sure what all the diferences are. Its things like wind up windows, probably seats etc. 2.0 is a bit faster too aparently, although for what it is, I cant complain with my 1.8. Nothing compared to what the vr6 was, but not awful either.

I have never thought about selling my VR and with the amount that have been wrapped around poles, plain and simply neglected or chopped up to be thrown into a conversion it might be silly to sell mine..... conversions and all that shiz might be "cool" but there ain't nothin like the real deal and as we all know money talks and bull**** walks .
So if you are serious, got cash and want a white VR this is what i got

                        mid 94
                        195,000 kms
                        unlike most VRs everything works!
                        ABS
heatercore ( replaced 2 years ago)
aircon ( replaced with a second hand unit 1 year ago )
new clutch ( replaced 1 year ago with a sachs unit )
water pump, belt tensioner and ribbed belt ( repalcaed 1 year ago )
plugs and leads ( replaced 1 year ago )
                        fresh oil & filter change done every 5k - 7.5k ( religously )
new Falkens on the stock 15s
BBS RS's currently being pulled apart for a liitle bit more lip ( if the price is right i may include them in the sale )
                        Hottunning coilovers ( 1 year old )
JVC head unit, pioneer splits in the front, pioneers 6 inch 3 ways in the rear doors and a fusion 10 inch tube in the boot
mk4 Recaro front and back seats fully functional

To be honest for its age its a pretty clean car and has never ever let me down, there are two things that if i had the spare money and time to do would be replace the coilovers cause they're rubbish and attend to two areas were there is a bit of rust growing . 1 being the drivers side rear door which i have a spare white one in my garage and also where the rubbers seals meet up at the bottom ( same side drivers side rear door )

Anyways its saturday night and im about to head out for a cruise with some mates so if your keen or have any questions PM me

                        cheers
