removing paint off textured bumper

just wondering what the best way to remove paint off a textured bumper, since its plastic i am worried about chemicals eating into it

You mean someone has painted one and you want to remove the paint?

I've used standard automotive paint stripper on plastics before, it won't eat into the plastic. If you're worried, just keep a bucket of water on the side to dilute it off once it does the job.

Thanks RayRay for your insights. My issue is the reverse, has anyone had success in respraying the black vinyl trim to give it a new look. My Mk3 cabby's trim is sun bleached in areas. I imagine that ziggy jacob might find the same issue under his paint layers (?)

I was looking for something more permanent. In my earlier days, I used to respray black vinyl items with a combination of plastic primer and spray paint but was hoping we may have progressed in the last 20 years.

I used a product called forever black on my old mk3's trim (which was incredibly light in places when I first got her) and it worked very well. It dyes the trim back and is supposed to last a long time. I only had mine a year but it was still looking very good at the time of the poor things death.

I resprayed my side trim before but over time (in about two years) they faded. The problem is prepping them which is difficult because of the dimples.

I've heard of people using those "back-to-black" trim products and heating them up with a heat gun to bond it. I don't know if it actually works or not though as I've never tried it.

to remove paint try paint thinner on a rag. you could use one of those green pot scouring pads, but you may scratch up the plastic
