  • Ben vs Mk3. Round 2.

    Oh hey.

Everyone who followed my old thread will know about the sad death of my vr6. Ohwell life goes on, so I wont fill this thread with sad things about it.

    RIP

Anywayy... just picked up a new toy and figured I'd start a new thread. Sad thing is I also lost my job days after writing the old car off, so until I find more decent work, not much is going to be happening to this 4wd height grandma golf. But should I find my self in a real job again soon, expect some big things

Anyway here he/she (havent decided yet) is. A cute little white 1995 2 door CL with a beastly single point injected 1.8L motor that when brand new, made less then half the power my modified vr6 would have been

I didn't even know the original cassette players still existed

Things I've done already with things I had lying around.. put my NA lip I grabbed off my old car nefore the tow truck arrrived on, and also swapped over a nice shiny vw badge with the back part painted black. Looks better I think, and very subtle.

Also in true ricey pplater style I put a cheap pod filter on it. Sounds a bit better and feels a tad nicer to drive. Still sounds like a drowning cat compared to the intake noise of the vr6 though.

Needs an altitude adjustment. And registration. Guess the latter is the more important

Looks damn clean, I'm loving the wheels also.

Are you still planning on swapping in vr6 gear?

Don't want to reveal all my plans just yet in case they just dont happen, but I'd be lieing if I said I wasn't planning on putting a vr in there

The wheels are just the stock 14 steelies haha. Although, I do have a set of real shoes in the making...

Thanks guys, it is in good condition and definitely has some potential For what I paid for it I'm very happy, although I'm not exactly sure about its past, only just found out from going through service records its done a lot more km's then advertised, and the cluster has probably been swapped over or something like that at some stage. Some parts look like they may have been resprayed possibly too. Ohwell, its not on REVS and everything seems fine. I could just be going crazy too.

Cheap mods are definitely first Although I'm not sure what to do, as I'm really hoping to get my old wreck back, in which case I would be able to pull a lot of things I've already modified off and swap them over.

I also have a set of wheels that are 60% refurbished I need to keep working on, and some other little things that are a work in progress

Took the thing in for a roadworthy today so I can get the thing registered, but as the people I took my last car too for a roady couldnt fit me in til later in the week I took it to some random place that could fit me in. Regretting it now. The ****s failed me stupid ****.

                        -Rear washer jet not working
-LHF Seat side cover is missing (wtf)
-Rear wheel bearings (okay they do make a little noise, hardly unsafe)
-RHF and LHR tyres (both have a couple mm over the tread wear markers and are perfectly legal.....)
-AC Compressor leaking oil (I didn't think they ac compressor even had oil.....?)
-Steering rack leaking fluid (probably the only reasonable thing in the list. still, doesnt make it dangerous at all)
-Accelerator pedal has no rubber (they didn't come with it from factory as far as I'm aware.........)

My unregistered vehicle permit runs out tomorrow so not sure what I'm going to do.

In other new, had my first day at a new job today, so this car (subframe) will be seeing some love (the ground) soon hopefully

A/C system's do contain oil but be being a RW issue? They must love P platers.

Good to hear your enjoying the sounds of a 4 cylinder sewing machine.
You get good fuel economy though

Not sure about QLD but can you bounce on the place the tested the car today and take it to somewhere else like your preferred tester?

You're right, a few of those items are pretty stupid. I make sure my guy knows that I have already purchased the car and am registering it to drive it for myself, and not just trying to RWC to flip it. They generally speaking are less harsh if they don't think little things will come back on them.

Nowadays in Vic even the tiniest little cracks or amount of uneven wear in tires will mean they need to be replaced for RWC.

Good luck getting it sorted. I would ask them wtf they mean about the seat cover and a/c oil, but if you can just get it inspected somewhere else then **** em.

I can take it elsewhere, but as it has no registrastion at all its hard driving it places -.- Will see if a mobile person can come around or something maybe or just drop it at the people who may pass it tomorrow even if they cant do it for a few more days.

I had a look just then and there was a little oil on the bottom of the compressor, but idk if its leaked from there. Ive head any form of leak at all is illegal.

Meh, we shall see what happens.

Oh and yes, I must say the fuel economy is stunning, and the little motor really isnt that bad. I do at times consider just leaving it in and maybe beefing it up a little instead of the vr6 swap, but we shall see.
