So i know that it's probably on because one of the ABS sensors is shot but was wondering if there is a way i can stop the light from staying on so i don't have any probs with my pink slip? pulling out a fuse or the globe from the console? any help greatly appreciated. cheers.

Yeah there's a bit about how to fix it, but I don't want to fix it I just want to turn the light off, or disconnect it etc

Yank the connector behind the light. Can't recall off hand if it's one for both ABS and airbag or if they are separate.

When Wolfsburg pulled my dash out he noticed they were disconnected, not sure if it was just never hooked up or if one of the lights was on so the previous owner pulled it. Eitherway, the guy cleared the error codes and it's all good. (He did say if it came straight back on I could unplug it again till I got it fixed).

So yeah, yank the plug behind it.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

Id say tape on the opposite side of the panel would be the easiest way to do it.
who does these checks? surely any person with half a brain actually realises that these lights self test with the ignition. So them not showing at all would be cause for further investigation ud think

I don't know that they would fail you even if it stayed on let alone notice if the POST didn't happen.

Yeah, pull the panel off that the lights (ABS & AB) are in, from memory the plug you then disconnect from it is brown.
Secure the brown plug on the inside with some tape or a bit of wire (so it wont fall into your dash) Push the panel back into place.

ABS is one of the more expensive things to fix, mine is semi broken. Doesn't work properly but doesn't light up the light. Mind you it could be disconnected...

Anyway, one of those things I'm not about to fix. I was quoted about $400 if they pull the computer and can repair it or about $2,000 for a new one... Not happening any time soon.

                    Plan B

I think on the very first mk3s (and some base models) late 1992-93. VW made a 1.4L! pussbucket!
They did not come with ABS or Airbags so they should have a blank panel to fit where our lighted ones are, ask a stealership if this blank is available new if at all...

I have seen cars with the abs light wired into the airbag light, so that both light up for a moment and then go out!

Most of the VR6s I see have dodgy ABS systems.

It's a all-in-one six pin connector for both the ABS and Airbag, if your concerned about rego unplug it for now, then plug it back in afterwards.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.
