  • electric to manual window winders

hey guys how hard or easy is it to change over to manual winders from the electric set up in my daughters mk 3
if its easy where do you source the parts from cheers

Question for you, why? Has something stopped working or is this a personal preference?

I would say they are completely different set ups. You would need to remove the electric window winding equipment and replace with the manual winder set up.

Best option to source parts is to go to a wrecker and part the bits out yourself, or the boys at Volkspower might be able to help.

I have heard of it being done. On one hand it should never break again... which is nice. But then for ~$1,000 you can replace every window with a brand spanking new genuine regulator and not have issues for the next 10 years... but then $1,000 is a lot of money in a Mk3 these days

(personally I have had two second hand units followed by three new genuine units go into my VR6... only one window to go and they will all be new!).

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

It would probably be easier to change the doors over though..... i'd assume the hard bit would be the internal door trim changes. Then a bit of wiring deletes.

I've picked up regulators for around $120 NEW, motors are a bit more expensive NEW $500 ish, 2nd hand should be $300 ish.

Depending on what your having problems with (the regulator or the motor????)
REG: I've repaired a regulator with items i've bought from bunnings, $10, easy.... others on the forums have done the same
MOTOR: Bit different if you can get it out and test it its usually a soldered connection damaged, and i've heard of people fixing them by finding the damaged solder joint and resolder.
