I have a few more pics. The car went into the panel beaters on Friday afternoon a little latee than what I had hoped for but thats my fault so the rush to the Nats is on big time!

Also went and saw Peter from OzWheels in St Mary's top bloke and he will be fixing my wheels to the standard of what he showed me I was speechless, so I am looking forward to it thats for sure, he said that they would be ready in a week which was also very impressive WOOT WOOT

Anyway on with the pics:

So Thursday night I got tinkering with the things that I wanted to do before I sent it to Detroit Customs, so I wanted to start on the battery relocation. The hardest part was going to be trying to find a hole that will allow me feed through the 2 guage wire from the engine bay through to the boot entirely throughout the inside of the car! This is pretty much as far as I got! But it took me 45 mins to work out where it was going to go in the end....




Found a opening behind the glovebox which I took off to feed it through



Under zee raintray That hole was already there and had a small plug that went over it!



Disgusting I only cleaned it like 5 months ago, shame, shame, shame hahaha.



Opened up the side and fed it through there.





Through to the back, and then left it in the state its in lol.


I then made the connections and left it there this is a example which is the negative 2 guage cable, quality I thought!

Are you planning to have the switchblade key chipped and rehook your remote to the fob? Mine's just sitting around at home for when I accidentally lock the keys in

Hahaha Ray, yeah there is a thread on Vortex where to cut and that and it looks pretty tricky so see how I progress. If you need help with the rerouting Raymond let me know it was quite easy, just move the glovebox to make it heaps easier to see. Then you just pull the whole side panelling off and feed it through

Jarred mate the whole thing is getting redone. I planned on getting the whole rear done for the Nats and now since the crash the whole thing is getting redone

did you know there is a big fat rubber grommet that goes straight into the cabin behind the glovebox? drill a hole slightly smaller than the cable (like 1-2mm smaller) and poke it through! Here is a pic:

My cable is 4ga for the Amp i just bought

The part where it comes out is really easily accessible and then it makes it easy to guide the cable down under the side skirts where you already have it.

Looks awesome man. I'm heaps keen to see what state it is going to be in at the nats I'm so freakin keen for them aye.

That negative connector in the pic goes to the battery when it is in the back yeh? Are you going to have any fuses in-line? what is the legality of relocation?

For legalities I guess that it will have to be secured that would be the main thing! With the metal box that I created it will be, I also drilled 4 holes into the metal strips to secure it to the MDF board where it sits, spreading the load it will be heaps secure! I will also put a strap that will go across it so that there is no chance of it moving

I am only going to use a fuse just for the amp after speaking to the man that did it in the first place Raymond who has been a very big help in this process!

bboyskidz: That grommet has been pointer out for me to use too... it's not there on the VR6, I think it's used as a mounting or for something to do with the ABS.

As for legalities of batteries in boots. AFAIK it needs to be secured properly and must be a sealed type battery because of fumes (or something like that).

Next question for Steve, does your car have the immobiliser? How are you getting that key to work if it does? Lastly. Gimmie.

I have seen someone cut up and rewire a whole aftermarket remote into that case just to get a flip key thing, but it didn't have the chip in the key. I was also under the impression that the chip used in those flip keys is not the same freq as the Mk3 so isn't compatible.

I would be happy to cust up my second key for the chip if I knew it worked or if I knew I could program my own keys, which of course I need the SKC for

Yes the super glue method will work, but sort of defeats the purpose of the immobiliser really doesn't it
(And yes it can be well hidden)

As for cutting the key, slap em round and tell them to cut it anyway (or head to the not so bright people at Kmart). Most are probably saying you have to go to VW because they know they can't code the key, explain that you know that and talk them into doing it anyway.
When I got my new key I was TOLD by VW to go get it cut at any locksmith then come back for coding. Funnily enough the Locksmith reckoned he could provide, cut and copy the key for me without the car. His prices were a bit less than VW, but by that point I had already payed for a genuine key so the price difference was very little, so I went with the safe option of VW doing it right.



On a side note when it comes to remotes for the Mk3... If you can get a momentary on remote switch hooked up to the stock wiring to the door locks you can get your central locking working remotely.

Further to that, if you can get a remote system that HOLDS the connection while you hold the remote button you can make it do the 'window up/down' trick too using the same method.

Even better if you can fit the transmitter into the switchblade fob

I did see a thing on youtube, linked from here somewhere I think, where a guy could provide a generic switchblade thing for lost of cars. All you need is one with two working buttons and a receiver to match and your off and running, wiring is pretty simple (after you have spent as long as I have reading the damn wiring diagrams in your Bentleys)

Interesting there Aaron in regards to that. However I will not superglue it to the inside of the shroud. I am actually going to hide the chip in the actual key fob. Theoretically where I put it, it shall work, however theoretically speaking I will also need to use a dremel to channel a little hole through it for inside. I have actually thought of a few different ways but I the one that will make that chip secure is actually opening the whole key fob and inserting it in the key itself

Any key cutter can do the, er, key cutting - you just have to remove the key from the fob. The bulkiness obstructs the key cutting machine otherwise. You'll be able to open doors and the hatch, but everytime you try and start the car, it'll fire up but will stall straight after as it doesn't recognise any chip.

Aaron, Louis had that function on his remote! It was cool enough to wind up the windows while locking the car, but he would be able to stand from like, 5 metres away and do the trick!
