Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Broken Door Locks

    Hey All,

I have a 1996 CL no remote locking or automatic windows.
Both the passenger and drivers side lock mechanisms are broken but have different issues.

    The Drivers side door:
The lock fully comes out out when you attempt to unlock the door from what i've read up on it the hook has broken so i think the whole lock barrel will need replacing.

    The Passenger side door:
This ones a bit different, the lock mechanism stays in place and you can take the key out with no problems. you can rotate the key to lock/unlock the door and it makes a noise as if its done something however the car remains unlocked

I'm thinking both door locks may need to be replace just wondering if anyone has had this kind of issue or knows a good place to get the parts to fix it from.

    Any help would be AWESOME!

    Cheers

    Wham

The little hook part can simply be replaced on the drivers side. The SEAT lock hook is the best option since it's a stronger piece. Easy as to do yourself.

The passenderside may very well be the same issue just the barrel is stuck in the door. Pull it apart and have a look

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

Cheers man i found these online VW GOLF 3 MK3 FRONT LEFT DOOR LOCK REPAIR KIT 92-97 | eBay UK, VW GOLF 3 MK3 DOOR LOCK REPAIR KIT FRONT RIGHT 92-97 | eBay UK Only thing is they don't come with a key. Excuse the ignorance but if I did buy those kits could I still use the same key I have or would I need two keys (one for the doors and one for my ignition)

You get the spring and the spade bit, that's it.

What happens is the hook on the other end of the spade looking bit snaps dropping the spring and the spade into the bottom of the door. The kit is handy since you don't have to dig out the spring

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.
