Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

So the rear window when down with a massive CLUNK today, can hear the motor trying to wind it up and down, but it ain't moving

This would be the regulator yes? Is this the easy fix with the zip tie etc, or much worse?

Definitely sounds like a regulator. I have fixed one with a cable tie in the past, is hard to explain how though. There is a write about it out there somewhere

Yeah, have seen the write here also, just wanted to check if that sounded like the standard problem or to try to start sourcing replacement parts...

Fair enough, well yeah, if you can hear that the motor is working the only other thing it can be is the regulator, as its the only thing between the motor and the window. They can break a few different ways so the cable tie fix might not work, it is the most common though.

Well the window is back up again, started to pull everything out, loosened the window clamp and then turned the car on to power the window regulator in the up position and the window went up again, was in a rush, so left it that way

Nothing too much to report, finally fixed my drivers door with a new eccentric kit, hopefully that will be the end of that little hook breaking off the end!!

Also notice on fleabay, there are replacement window regulators for under $100 each, anyone ever bought one / comments on their quality??

                  Looks the goods.

I got a window reg problem to now. A shame since I havent driven the car in 10 months. First time it moves the window went down

I saw those eBay regulators, and thinking about getting one. If I do I'll let you know how it is.

Ended up fixing my rear window with the forum mod, worked a treat!

Was looking at my front window, which is more an intermittent problem, is this also fixed with the same mod?

As it snapped off at the bottom hose, was more of a need

I bought a new one for my vr6 just to freshen things upwhen I had one. cant remember where from but it wasn't very expensive. Would have been from ecs, gap or 1stvwparts
