  • My first VR6

    Hey there,

Started with a post in the newbies post section, but have pretty well decided to buy this VR6 so thought I could jump in here now, with pics attached woot woot. I guess 39 isnt too old to start playing with hatches now is it

This is the VR6 I have been lent due to my daily driver doing its head in, the option is to purchase this one and 2 other wrecks (one with a dead auto, and one with a dead motor) for about $5K. This current one is in pretty good condition, small dent in the rear corner, ABS and Park Brake light remain on, but apart from that just cosmetic little things inside.

I am keen to get the other 2 wrecks (have only seen one) but apparently the one I havent seen has the good exhaust, suspension etc on it to change over.

Look forward to playing with my new toys and catching up at some events.

    Cheers
    Ross

    PS: Oh yeah, the pics....

    Welcome

So wait you'd have 3 vr6's? I might be interested in a few little things if you get the wrecks and start pulling em apart

Dont really want to wreck them, apart from the things I need hehe, but will most likely be looking to sell them whole as possible when I am finished. But hey, see what happens when I get them

I think having a few spares (2 whole cars) is a must when owning a VR6 these days.

Mate if you can get some cheap cars do it..

Well had another chat with my partners father last night, apparently the one I am driving is a German model and the other 2 are South African models (due to different external trim and plastic wheels arches?)...not sure if there is any other difference in the makes?

Basically the one I am driving is mechanically the best (has somewhere between 250-300 000kms on it), there is a purple one in the back yard with a dead auto and an ok engine and the other red model (yet to see) has a dead engine and some other mechanical faults BUT is cosmetically the best also with the sports exhaust, suspension and comp clutch.

Yet to discuss the final deal, but is around $5K for all 3.

Don't know about the south african thing... Im pretty sure mine was made in germany, but im not sure haha. I know the early vr6 have the plastic wheel arch flare things and textured trim while ones from 96+ are colour coded and dont have the flares.

They both have the Aus' delivered, German built, BBS wheels, the difference in trim is just a facelift and prefacelift happened sometime in '96, there will be a few different touches all around the place, engine wise a different throttle body is the main difference also the ECU is a bit different the later model has a diagnostic port next to the ash tray behind a hidden panel, and the engine cover no longer lied about being DOHC as it's not a straight six. People often refer to the older one as OBD I and the newer OBD II, it's not 100% correct but at least it's something to go off if you want to find out about the differences.

South African ones came with 5 spoke wheels that I believe also came on early German ones, like '92, '93 that we didn't get, same specs as the BBS we got, I doubt yours would be SA it would have had to be imported and people dont generally bother importing cars if they can get the same thing here, and private imports from South Africans moving here would be pretty rare.

5K sounds like a decent price for all three.

If you were smart you could make two from three, and have a bit of cash in your back pocket
