your engine doesnt have a set of lungs to limit the amount of air it can take in. Jsut think if u were to suck continuously. ud be able to drink thru a metre long straw with no problems.

are you not the same person that posted all those problems with your car recently?if your car pinged even after you changed back to a panel filter, you still believe it was the pod that caused it ??
im not going to go into how a maf works, thats not what the topic is about.

maybe you should start your own thread with all the issues you have with your car instead of hijacking soundofav6 thread.

      gpk_gti out.
well to me it seems like you are doing some selective reading. I have already answered your questions.

as I am aware, the MAF is directly related to the air intake. in essence, I believe I am on topic, since we were all discussing whether to put a heat sheild or not.

and to clarify, I did not hijack soundofvr6's thread. please don't falsely accuse me of something I did not do. if you still think I have hijacked this thread, you can private message me and we'll battle it out there

hey john thanks for the tech info.
Have not yet got luck finding place postion to make use of high velosity air design. Obviously I have to extend with pipes and stuff, but the position in the engine bay. the size is very clumpy.
the filter size is about "middle finger to thumb with 2 hands, and about plam size and a bit deep."
        Anyone got suggestions?

ask steve to post you some photos of his extension pipe.its pretty simple, get tuffy or muffler place to bend it up for you.
come past one day and ill show you where a pipe can be fit to allow better airflow from outside.usually some people remove the blank vlinker spots and put a airintake there,or as I did, where the mesh part is on the lower part of the bumper can accomodate a intake there.
some guys are running a CAI which lowers the pod nearly to the bottom of the engine, but that can cause water to enter the filter which is bad news.

Thank you sir... I would appreciate it if you can show me. I probably wouldn't do it any time soon, I will do it when one day when I am bored.

Louis, I was just surfing around Vortex and found an example of a heat shield if you still can't quite picture it:

                  Past: Mk3 Golf 2L 8V, Audi 8L A3T.
                  Present: Mk3 Golf variant.

Hey ray thanks for the pic... Do tou have a pic that shows with a pipe with a filter? I want to know when others run their pipe to.. I see some people cut a hole where the air box was. would that not damage the structure ?

Underneath the airbox theres the hole for the charcoal canister, and if u relocate that u can fit a decent sized pipe thru. I think thats the best way to do it if u have the time!

Note difference between pinging and pre-ignition .
